I recently contacted Honda Customer Relations (1-800-999-1009) regarding the plastic window. Thier response was to clean the window. I told him that I frequently use Plexus on the window and bi-weekly Meguires #10 and #17. And that the major problem was not keeping the window clean but rather the top folding onto the window and causing an impression of the top support in the form of a line across the window.

He then stated that Honda was WELL aware of the problem and that the engineering department is working on a fix for this. I asked about glass (with the knowledge that it would be quite a bit smaller) and he stated that Honda used plastic to reduce weight. I think we all know that the windows size was the biggest factor, the weight could not be more than 10 pounds.

When I asked if I could be informed when a fix was available he directed me to contact the dealer every 4-6 months and to look online for s2000 sites as they usually "get wind" of these things first. Also I asked if there was a possibility that this fix would be of no charge. He said that the only way for this to happen would be for Honda to make this into a special campaign.

Any possibility for us to collectively work on this issue? Has anyone else called the Customer Service line and complained?

Hopfully they will do something with the top to fix the crease problem.

 

Honda monitors these boards, so they are well aware of our opinions. Another idea would be a petition to Honda. This way they get only one complaint but it shows we are united.

I would like to thank you and American Honda for finally acknowledging that the 2000 Honda S2000 has a potential gearbox grind (TSB # 00-055) and dealing with the problem. Now, I think another problem with this otherwise wonderful automobile needs to be addressed.

While I agree that Honda should have included a roof well mat like the Muz mat and something to protect the plastic window when it is folded, I have not had any problems. My S2000 sat on the showroom for almost four months with the top down and it did not have a creas when I got it. I roll up a bath towel when I put the top down, I have a Muz mat, and I have not even had to use any Plexus on it.

Again, I know that this solution is a pain, especially since I traded in my 2001 Miata on the S2000. I was really happy with the glass back window in the Miata and did not mind that it was smaller than a plastic one would be since I generally do not drive with the top up and am careful when I do.

Anyway, I can't really see Honda retrofitting a glass window to the current S2000's but they could at least offer a roof well mat and maybe something like the Miata tube to current owners along with a new plastic window if needed. I hope I can keep mine in good shape for awile because I have seen a lot of older convertibles with plastic back windows that were so yellow and hard that you could not see out of them.

I use the Muz Mat and the Miata tube and my window still has some serious creases. It's a pain in the butt to hop out and put the tube in but I do it every time.
Anybody have any suggestions? It seems that most others don't have the problem with the crease once they started using the Miata tube or a similiar remedy.
