Default Rear Window Rattle - Anyone know the cure?

I have read where other owner's glass rear windows rattles when in motion, has anyone fixed this or at least determined where the noise comes from?

Thanks,David

I've had this problem as well, but I can't figure out how to fix it. It only happens when the car is in motion, the soft top is up, and the wind hits the soft top just right. From inside the car (obviously), my boyfriend will push outwards at the bottom of the window and the rattling goes away. I just can't figure out what it's rattling against, though... If anybody can suggest a good solution, I'm sure there will be quite a few people grateful for the information.

My wife is taking her S2000 in on Friday for maintenance and has asked them to look at this. I'll let you know what they say.

This is an interesting one. The rear window is suspended on a soft fabric type material that is going to move around when the car is in motion. It's part of driving a rag top convertible and there's nothing you can do about this for the most part. What I wonder here is, how far is the window moving? I know is seems like the window can't contact anything solid while the top is up but certainly the fabric can.

One thing that comes to mind while thinking about this is, maybe they can adjust the tention on this part of the top while it's up. From what little experience I've had with soft top convertibles, this isn't particularly easy to do and it would definitly be a trail and error process. If they can slightly tighten or loosen the material, they'll change the frequency at which it's going to vibrate which might solve the problem. It would be intersting to compare an S2000 with this problem against one without it and see if there's any obvious difference in tention on the rear window with the top up.

Just a thought,
Good luck,
Steve R.

possible solution to this "rattle"

my 2002 suzuka had this problem. What I found out, was that underneath the material covering the window sides (drivers side) there is some velcro (dunno what this was used for....but it's velcro) and what was happening was this velcro was rubbing ever so slightly against the far bottom edge of the glass window.

When I purposely pressed this velcro across the bottom of the window, it created a squeaking sound. Well, when I tapped on this area lightly (to simulate windy conditions)...sure enough that squeaking sound turned into a rattle?!?!?! Weird, but that was the cause of my glass window rattling.

Haven't found out how to get rid of the sound completely, but after messing with it, rubbing the velcro harshly with my hands, the rattling has gone away.

hope this helps.....

I had the same problem and took it into my local dealer. The shop foreman, a guy older than me, took it out for a drive with me in the passenger seat. He immediately confirmed the rattle.

His solution was to lubricate every joint in the hard top. It worked. No more rattles.

Don't know if that will help you or not.

I have this same problem - the window rattle. I also had the squeaky top, which was fixed by the TSB you mentioned above. The squeaks are different than the rattle.

I'm going to check on the velcro-rubbing-the-glass thing and see if that has something to do with it.

I've had this problem since I bought my car. My service department (Honda) has looked at it several times with no solutions. They called Honda to find out what other dealerships are doing and discovered that this is a common complaint amongst S2000 owners. There is no fix for this issue as of yet - or so they say.

I am sceptacle of all service info that I get from my dealership. Take this for what it's worth.
