Default Rear window replacement

I don't understand why it isn't possible to just change the part of the top with the window in it...I went in my car tonight and unzipped the zipper in the top, and it will take out the entire rear window... it seems all a person would have to do, is unzip that and unscrew the rest from behind the plastic molding....if anyone has done it that way, or knows why it can't be done, let me know, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.... I'm going out of my gord trying to figure this out. Just as much as I don't want to spend the money, I don't want to spend the time taking off an entire top and putting one back on.

thanx for any advice.

The top part of the window has a zipper but the bottom is riveted in with the top. There is no easy R&R.

Yes, the bottom part is rivited to the rest of the top and the rain rail that goes along the lining. You would have to take out the back plastic trays and the side trays to get to the 10mm bolts that hold the top and rain rail on. There are also two clips on each side that are kind of hidden that need to be removed.

If you look in the library, you will find a write-up on a top conversion. You don't have to do all the steps but read the last few steps, it will show you the main steps to do.

Also, if you can get a hold of a helms manual. It will show the steps in detail as well.

I was also qouted in the $1000 price range for the plastic window and labor, and that was with a discount.

I suggest that you buy the plastic window from one of our sponsors, Hardtopguy, for around $155 +shipping i believe. Then take the plastic window to a local upholestry shop and have them install it. It will be much cheaper and probably quicker.

Honda sends out all of their convertible top repairs to outside upholestry shops that they know. Then they charge you extra for them to be the middle man. My own service advisor told me that they were gonna send it out and it woud cost $x amount for the upholestry shop to replace it, then another $x amount the dealership was going to put on top of that just for the trouble....
