Be glad... That $400,000 mansion in Cleveland? Gets you a ghetto house without a garage and bars on the windows in the Bay Area.

I'm a Bay Area fan, but the prices are out of control.

Still, better than Hong Kong.

Some places in Hong Kong are not that bad. Was offered a flying job there for 5 years but wife did not want to go.
The real secret is Thailand. Very inexpensive and the people are terrific. Lots to do, great food. You can have a housekeeper(s) gardener, cook, masseuse, whatever and still have 80% of your income left over. Lots of guys commute from there.

Too true. You can live like a king here compared to in the Bay Area. My 2100 sf house in a decent neighborhood in the Cleveland area was 200k.... 200k literally won't even buy a shack in East Palo Alto nowadays. Lived there for a couple months one summer while I was a student at Stanford. Never again!

Does a King have to suffer the worst weather on CONUS, lack of interesting geography (lake effect snow does not count), and salt on the road destroying your car?

I spent some time in Cleveland on layovers and a couple diverts; I am glad people like it but man oh man it is not for me.

The politics in California drive me wild but this place has so much to offer:

Backyard in the sun!

Lake Aloha, Desolation Wilderness

Pacific from Coronado, taken from the house I grew up in.

Tioga Pass Yosemite

I meant I'd never do East Palo Alto again. It was a mistake doing it the first time, and I learned that pretty quickly. Anyplace west of the 101 I'd consider, and west of 280 even better.

I've lived in Cleveland for 24 years now, and the winter we just went through was SEVEN MONTHS of at least intermittent snow and nearly constant cold. It was the worst winter I've ever experienced....and I spent five years living in Wyoming, where winters are pretty bad. This last winter broke two of my colleagues, who have decided to move as a result of the weather. My wife is worth staying here, but I'll convince her someday......Denver or the Bay Area......those are where I wanna retire......

But back on topic:

I'm looking at the map in the first post again....there are decent roads in Ohio, but you have to drive to get to them from Cleveland. A great example is Ohio 555. http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/44...Route-555.html . That'd be a helluva commute to work. I'd have to miss work.
