I don’t know much about cars but luckily I know people that do, and I’d like to get opinions on buying a rebuilt title s2000.
I’ve been told damage to the shock tower is very likely so this wouldn’t be a good buy. Car was damaged at 64k miles and is now repaired and at 87k.
Seller is a friend and says the car drives well with no issues in the 4 years he’s owned it.
OP, so car has been repaired? any pics post-repair? What about receipts from the shop that completed the repair? I would suggest taking the car to a body shop for a thorough inspection.
That took a fairly good hit and would certainly need to be professionally repaired, I agree with Midnightdennis about taking it to a body shop. Good luck.
Whoa! I suppose it would depend on how good of friends you are and how cheap the car is being sold for. As suggested above you should have it inspected by a competent repair shop to make sure that the previous work was done right. Since it's a friend selling the car that shouldn't be a problem. Even if the repair work was done well you should be able to pick this up for pretty cheap. But just remember that if you ever decided to sell it later on the next buyer is going to expect the car to be priced cheaply as well. Just look at listing for S2000s in your area and compare the difference in prices between cars with clean titles and rebuilt titles. Keep in mind those are only asking prices and not likely what people are actually getting for these cars. The other question to ask yourself is how clean do you like to keep your cars looking — would you really be okay owning a black car? Good luck with your decision.
Price and what you want it for dictates everything. If you could buy it for dirt cheap to strip it out, cage it up, and wring it out on the track, I'd be all over it. I'm spending a lot of money and effort on my only "nice" s2000 which will be a fun seasonal car. But I've been thinking about trying to find a second with either higher mileage or a not-so-stellar history and use it as a dedicated track car.
