Default Recent Model # & Poor Service Suggestions

Since you probably don't know me, I am a senior at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. I am originally from central Illinois. I will be attending undergraduate pilot training next year and should then be flying F-15E's or F-16C/J's. I have been reading this forum since last September when I ordered my 2001 S2000 (Silver/Black).

For those of you wondering what production number Honda is at, my dealer just told me that mine (still in Japan) is #8240.

I have a pearl voodoo shift knob, polk/momo speakers, mtx amp, sony m750 head unit, aura bass shakers, miata tube, and muz mat waiting for her.

As far as dealer service is concerned, I am purchasing mine through Huey's Honda in St. Louis at MSRP (a very big deal back in September -- not so now). They have basically given me the run-around since I deposited my down-payment of $5,000. They just don't have their act together. I am supposed to pick her up 11 July, and it is still in Japan. I really don't think it will be in on time. I have paid for a plane ticket from USAFA to St. Louis just to get my car. Now, I may have waisted my money!

Does anyone know how long it takes an s2k to get to the states? Also, what would you do/ask for in my situation?

This forum is great! Keep up the good work and great threads.

GO AIR FORCE! BEAT ARMY! SINK NAVY!

Keagan-

I have heard that it takes about one week. That figure, as I recal, is the time to get the car from port in Japan to port in the US. I have no idea how long it takes to get to St. Louis from port (presumably out here in Long Beach or San Pedro, CA).

I hope someone else on the board can help you out further. My suggestion is to request that the dealership "make you whole" by re-imbursing you for whatever extra costs you have by having to fly out twice and/or re-booking your flights. If you have a contract, you may have a leg to stand on. If not, I am sorry to say that you are likely to be screwed.

I hope it all works out for you. These are great little cars and all the trouble that you are having will seem like nothing once you have your new rocket in you possession.

Congrat's on the purchase and more importantly congrat's on what sounds to be an upcoming graduation and the beginning of a great career for you.

PS - Glad you didn't knock the Marines. Semper Fi

Just another data point: my wife's Toyota took 12 days to get from port (LA?) to Phoenix. The dealer told me that 10 days to 2 weeks was typical.

I am wondering why your dealer didn't order your car in September, or even in February or March. Based on when mine was ordered/received and my VIN, I'd estimate that your dealer probably ordered your car about 4-5 weeks ago. Essentially, what were they waiting for? Dealers generally order cars once or twice a month, and should know by now that they won't get a particular S2000 color combo next week if they order it today.

Regarding the trip from port to St Louis, you can probably get the car to St Louis in time, provided your car is on a boat sometime this week - but it will cost you, probably $1000-1500 (have it shipped directly to the base?). Or rather, it will cost the dealer for messing up royally.

My $.02: I think you are being taken for a ride.

Good luck on resolution.

Yeah, maybe you can get the dealer to deliver it to you. Any you should pick the delivery service. Someone on the board should be ableto recommend a shipper if you choose to go that direction.

Anyway, good luck, congrats on the pending graduation, and what an awesome graduation gift to yourself!

Thanks so much for the replies. It looks like there might be hope for me yet. Hopefully it *will* ship out sometime this week.

I do actually have a contract that says I will have my car by 11 July 01, so it better get here. I don't want to have to mess with court stuff. I don't have that kind of time.

I too wonder why they didn't just order this thing a long time ago since they knew way in advance. However, I will NOT get taken for a ride. If they don't deliver by this date, my s2k is going to be less than MSRP for sure.

If I do have it shipped, can anyone recommend a certain delivery service that will treat my car with great care?

All other help/suggestions would be apprecited.

GO AIR FORCE! PUNT THE GRUNTS! SINK NAVY (and the Marines too)!

PS: No, I will not be modding my s2k with a jet engine. Only because the fuel would be too hard to get.

I would ask them to transport it on a truck with a car cover protecting your new weapon on the road. Seize that car cover when you get the keys. Mine took 9 weeks to arrive, only because the color combo was not in the area and I was not "rushing" to get the car (the wait was painful .....)

Good luck to your purchase, hope everything runs smooth and well.

why dont you ask your wingman a favor, and take your s2k out for a quick air fueling ? just share a little from the jet man ..... the gas tank inlet angles upward for easy access ! plus, enjoy the open air

If I remember correctly, it took a little over 3 weeks from ship date from Japan to arrive on the East Coast.
