I dont have the gear grind, but I do have the noisy clutch.

I talked to a dealer that had just done a friend's TSB 055 (tranny) and replaced his clutch too... his driveline is MUCH quieter.

Anyhow, in talking to the dealer, they want to drive my car to evaluate the noise, and said that they would need to determine if the noise was clutch related or not.

Anyhow, I walked away thinking pretty much that it was a waste of my time.

I came home and called the selling dealer's service manager, who I had dealt with regarding my noise in the first place. He said they originally found the loose exhaust shield, but it didnt fix the noise... (remember, my car was pre-owned).

Anyhow, I spoke to him on the phone and told him about my friend that had his clutch go bad and also had his 1-2 grind fixed. I mentioned that a few members online had similar experiences where the clutch was replaced at the time of the TSB and the driveline noise went away...

I also mentioned that the clutch has a revised part number from Honda and that many people have said its a considerably quieter part.

So, he told me that since my car was under warranty, the clutch has a revised part #, and I've got a few testimonials that the clutch fixes the noise, he said he would replace it under warranty... normally, they dont because its a wear item, but if its causing noises, then its covered by warranty.

I'll be taking the car in sometime towards mid-late December, so we will see how it turns out. I just thought maybe this info would help some of you, and I'd like to thank the forum because its the sharing of information that makes this possible...

hopefully this will all work out nicely. The driveline noise is my least favorite part about the car (along with the plastic rear window).

Mike,

that's great news. I'm in the same boat as you: no grind problems, but noisy (and occasionally slipping) clutch. Please keep us posted on your experiences.

Has anyone else had under warranty clutch replacement without the grind fix?

Thanks,

Ted

I'll let you know what happens... going to be a few weeks before I take it in though. In spite of the service manager being cool, I'm tempted to print out some testimonials from here before going in, just so I cover my end and dont look like I am trying to get something just because...

Also, am going to print out some info on the window issue. Service manager said he knows a few common problems of the S2000, but certainly wouldnt have the indepth research that an owner would... Dunno if thats good or bad

I am having the same thing done. I originally gave my dealer a print out of a thread that had part numbers of the parts someone had replaced under warranty. My dealer called Torrance and he was told those part numbers were all the stock parts but there is a new updated clutch disk. So, my dealer said they would replace the clutch disk even though they had already done the 1-2 grind fix. This will be the second time they are taking apart the tranny

I hope to get my car back tomorrow. They are also replacing my rear window.

My clutch does not grind, but it doesn't engage until it is let almost all the way out. Is this normal?

That is normal, legalrep. Most hydraulic clutches engage only at the very top of the pedal travel, no need to worry. If you want to test to see if your clutch is slipping, give it full throttle while in 6th gear on the highway. Clutches will always slip first in the highest gear under maximum load, and as the problem progresses, you'll start to notice slippage in progressively lower gears.
