Reliability of the s2k
Hello, I'm close to purchasing a 02 s2k, The car has 145k and will need a new clutch soon. I don't know much about these cars other than " it's a honda!"
How much does it cost generally to replace the clutch? and is their a better one to get? (Aftermarket)
Whats the reliability like for these cars? are the AP1's less reliable than the AP2's?
Pron and cons of AP1 & AP2?
Thanks in advance

New ap1 owner myself. This car was out since MY99, there is plenty of info, seriously gotta search because really, the older post are done so well that it's useless rewording, reposting.

as for the clutch I think evasive motorsports charges $300 for labor, which is pretty damn fair. Stay with OEM clutch unless you going FI.

As you said: It's a Honda.
No.
As stated above, it's a well-beaten dead horse and subjective. As always, test drive to answer.

As stated, do some research on here. THe links provided by APaul1 are a great start. Use the search function to find answers to your questions. If you really can't find one, then come back here and ask specifics.
In general, the OEM clutch is more than adequate for the S unless you plan on going FI or will be tracking the car extensively.
AP1 and AP2 are similar in reliability. There are some parts to the AP1 you will want to upgrade to the AP2 like the retainers, but for the most part, as long as the care has been maintained per the Honda recommended schedule (at a minimum), then it should be fine. At that mileage, a valve adjustment, spark plug change, coolant flush and general maintenance should be done (including oil change, diff fluid change, transmission fluid change, brake fluid change, clutch fluid change, alignment and a close look over).
In general, the AP1 and AP2 are very similar. The AP1 has a more 'raw' feel to it with a higher redline and a more sensitive suspension setup. The AP2 was 'tamed' just a bit to make it more amenable to daily driving including more torque (decreased redline) and a more stable suspension setup.
