What factors prompted you to originally consider the Honda S2000 as a potential automobile to own?
For me, it was this photo on the Honda Japanese website that caught my attention in the Fall of 2000...
At first, I thought cool car but its nothing more than Miata on steroids. But as I read more and more about it, my ignorant opinion quickly changed. Great performance numbers, good looking, its a convertible and extremely rare. Two years ago, Memorial Day weekend in 2001, I decided to visit a local Honda dealer for a test drive and after 30 minutes of pure fun, enjoyment, excitement and automobile bliss, I was sold. Then exactly two years ago, I stumbed upon this forum through a search in Google for S2000. I joined and the information provided here reinforced my decision to buy. Three weeks later I drove home in my new 01 Spa Yellow S2000.
Thank you Honda for producing such a fine automobile and thank you s2ki.com for the infinitely vast amounts of information and friendship.
Well I bought a Z3 (1996 or 97). And loved the driving experience but I wished it had more beans. This was the 1.9L engine. I should have bought the 2.8L, but it was too much money for me at the time.
When the S2000 came out it was everything I wished the Z3 had been. I had jumped too soon and settled for the Z3.
Well fast forward 5 years. I can afford basically any car I want (within reason). So I go test drive the Boxster S. Same day I also test drive the S2000. I had more fun driving the S2000.
I was on a 120 day TDY in Zamboanga Philippines surfing net for my next car. I was so stuck on the 330 Ci Coupe when I happened upon honda's web site. I just couldn't find anything negative written about the S2000. I started out wanting the prestige of owning a BMW but quickly realized that performance outweighted prestige. Sometimes I think about the decision I made, good or bad.....yesterday i went out for the sole purpose of vteching; man I was shifting with great vengeance and unbridled ferocity. I had a great time..love this car
Saw a pic of the car in a UK magazine way back when it came out, they took it around the Alps for the test drive. The howl of the engine.... love the look of the front profile
Got some cash last year and splashed out.
My friend has recently been driving his girlfriend's Boxster. I let him drive my S2000 over the weekend and he loved it. Said it was way more fun, scared the bejesus out of me though!
I'd been wanting to buy another roadster/sportscar since I sold my old MG-TD in the early 80s. With a family to raise and a need for four seats (and four doors) this had to be put on hold.
In the mid nineties I considered buying a Miata but never got past the talking stage. In 2000 one of my collegues bought a Silverstone/Black S. Right there I made up my mind to own one.
First of all, its a Honda and I've been delighted with the 4 Accords that I'd owned, the motorcycle that I'd gone to college on, and even my lawn mower. I've never been disappointed with a Honda product. Secondly, the car is drop dead beautiful. Most importantly, I drove it and rode in it. Easy decision after that. The hardest choice was deciding between Sebring and Suzuka.
The buzz the S generated in the car rags when it came out was unbelievable. I know a lot of that should be discounted, but I can't remember a bad word spoken about the S2000. Most positively gushed... Then a co-worker showed up in one a few months later. That was MY'00.
I kept holding off, but then my sis decided she wanted my Miata last spring. I immediately went after an MY'02 Suzuka.
When opportunity knocks, it's generally a good idea to answer the door!!
For over ten years I'd considered adding a "modern" sportscar to my garage. I always thought it would be a Miata. I was just waiting for them to beef it up. When the S2000 came out, I considered it but didn't really plan to spend that much - so I never looked into it further. Then a die-heart corvette owner from work showed up with one and I test drove it. Hum, not bad. I didn't really VETC it because it didn't have 1,000 miles on it. But it got me thinking, so I looked up a used one for sale because I knew I could properly test it. My wife was with me and I can still recall her comment on the drive, "I think 110 in someone else's car is fast enough!" I had no idea, I was in the VETC zone. I couldn't sleep that night just thinking about that sweet engine and tranny. I went to the dealership the next day and within two weeks had my own. Before signing the doted line I found this site and found out about the #4 cylinder issue which was in the headlines here at the time. I had concerns but just couldn't get over how the car had everything I wanted in a sportscar - great handling, great engine, great looks. Threw caution to the side. Absolutely a great decison.
after 2 rx-7s, and a 911 i was about to buy a boxster...
then i saw the first reviews for the s2000. my parents had always owned hondas, so i knew the difference in maintenance between a honda and a porsche!
also knew that there were lots of boxsters around and no s2000s (at the time)!
had to wait 3 months after ordering the car...
it has been, by far, the best car i have owned from an all around performance and fun standpoint!
