Default Removal of stock side mirror glass?

Instead of using the double sided tape provided with the Spoon mirrors and sticking them over the stock glass, I know a few members on here have removed the stock glass out of their side mirrors and re-mounted the mount from the stock mirror to the the back of the spoon glass and reinstalled them in place of the stockers. I have also read that to remove the stock glass all you do it pull up on the glass itself and it should come out? I have tried this, and they don't seem to want to come off, and the amount im pulling up it feels like i'm going to severly break the mirror or parts behind the glass in the stock mirror. Am I doing something wrong or is there a trick to this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

steve- i know that there is a good pdf file on how to do this...
i got a replacement lens for mine when i got the car (i bought an oem european "passengers side" mirror for my drivers side- since it is like our passenger side- to get more area in the view).
maybe handa accesories or one of our sponsor has this instruction. it was easy to do- i will try to track it down and post back here.

cant find it on the web- but the shop manual has it on page 20-21

pull out the bottom edge by hand (with gloves)
separate the mirror from the actuator by slowly pulling them apart
reattach the hooks and push into place...

oddly enough, i think that this is a pic:

Let the car heat up in the sun for a few hours. This will make the "goo" (adhesive putty, they call it) become softer. Save all the goo you can and transfer it to the new mirror. Have the mirror adjusted so it's as far UP as possible. This may give you some view and access to the underside where you may be able to slip a thin metal screwdriver to help pry the glass away from its backing plate. Don't ever just yank on it as you may break the plastic tabs on the end of the adjuster. Slow and steady till the goo lets go.

#1: It would look like shit
#2: The spoon lense is much more convex compared to the stock, therefore there is hardly any contact patch for the spoon mirror to stick onto the stock one
#3: I have read threads on where people have lost mirrors due to them falling off because they are hard to get to hold, even with extra tape due to the second reason I stated above
#4: It's the easy/lazy way out.

hey, i am about the most unmechanical guy here and i did it with no problems!
popping the mirror off is the hardest part just cause its kinda scary to grab onto glass and pop it off!
i think you will be able to handle this with no prob- hopefully the pic referral in my post above will help you visualize how its held on.
good luck!!
