Renting an S2000
For those looking for more than a quick ride, Specialty Car Rentals in the SF Bay Area rents an S2000 for about $250/day. You must reserve it in advance. I did this a couple of weekends ago, and it was the best $250 (actually about $290 with extra miles, etc.) I've ever spent.
The ride convinced me that the S2000 is the car for me. It is sensational driving on twisty roads in the hills (Hwy 84 out to Hwy 1, and other smaller roads). I've driven an NSX--this is a lot more fun.
Lack of torque is a non-issue. My only complaint is with the stiff ride on some freeeway stretches. The ride got a lot better when I let the air pressure down to the recommended 32 psi from 44.
I even got my wife to ride in it--she didn't even complain about carsickness as we whipped around the turns.
She even liked the red color--although I still like the Silver.
Thanks to everyone for the great info available on the bulletin board. I'm still trying to find a Silver/Red somewhere close to MSRP without paying $5000 for "options" I don't want.
