Default Repainting my valve cover

So, a pretty tiny bit of a post, but I was so happy with the results I wanted to share.
My engine blew up on the dyno last week and I decided I had to change the color of the valve cover along with getting a new motor.
The color is literally an Autozone high temp color. The clear coat is from Wesco Autobody Supply and is a 2 part catalyst spray.

How did you remove the old paint?

Jasco paint stripper, put it on thick, let it sit, wire brush and repeat. You have to be careful not to get too much inside the valve cover because it can get behind the splash shield. Once you’re done and it is all bare you need to clean the crap out of it to make sure nothing is in the threads or behind that shield.

It’s pretty cold out in Seattle so I had to heat the thing up with the hairdryer, paint it outside and then rush it indoors. It made the house stink so much that I took it in the truck with me for the day with the heater on. I got pretty high, lol.

I spoke to Jeremy Allen yesterday and he asked me how I prepped for the paint. Apparently a lot of people will bead blast these things and then the beads get behind the shield and he said that will 100% lock up the engines if not fully cleaned out.

Here is the clear coat. Do NOT breath it in at all. It WILL dry in your lungs. It also has the uncanny ability to travel anywhere in room and land on painted items and wreck the paint,

Wow! Looks great!

I hope you will followup and post photos of the engine in the S2000 with this cover in place.

Although I love the end result, I hope that in the future you will follow all paint fume safety guidelines and use proper mask/filters and paint room facilities! You can't swap out your lungs, dude.

Looks nice. Lots of posts about the problems associated with blasting the S's valve covers as the debris is alway lurking to commit damage.
