Default Replace factory top for $500?

noticed a small hole in the top and i mentioned it to the dealer while taking it for scheduled maintenance.

They called me up and said Honda would replace the whole top, except for $500.

is this normal? cant small holes be patched up? should i go for it?

Go for it. That's a heck of a deal. Then do the preventative inside felt reinforcement on the new top and have it last for 10 more years!

Unless his car is under warranty. Then it should be free!

Not necessarily. He has an 06 and at that point, there's certainly an element of "normal wear" involved.

Warranties don't cover brakes, either. But if they wear out extremely prematurely, sometimes they'll be covered at least partially.

He's right. Try to get them to cover it first, but if they won't, take the deal!!! I contacted 7 shops when i wanted to switch to a glass rear window. 5 of them were $550 or more for labor alone and $500-800 for the soft top. 2 of them wouldn't even do it- said it wasn't worth the hassle or the chance of breaking panels etc. and the cost to replacing them.

I just replaced it myself. You don't want to do that... ever... trust me.

sounds good, then cut up ur top in one inch square patches and sell them on the forum for $5 to recoup your $500, a .34 stamp is ur shipping cost. I'll be ur first customer.
