Default Replacement battery recommendations?

The OEM battery in my 6-years old S2000 is dying -- 50K miles, is that average, below average, or above average?

I've read through some of the threads, but most of them date back to 2004 or earlier, so I want to know if there is any updated recommendations for a replacement battery. By the way, I am not interested in saving weight, so I don't need the Optima or similar light weight batteries. The candidates I've read are:
- OEM Honda
- Sears Die Hard
- Interstate
- Napa
- WalMart

Other than the price, is there anything else I should consider when shopping for a replacement battery? Thanks.

Wal-Mart $35.

My MY2000 died at ~45K miles. About average I suppose.

Get the biggest "cold cranking amps" in this size, but due to the small size, CCA won't change that much from one brand to another. Your battery has lasted way longer than the average S2000 battery. You live in SF where the temps don't get that cold throughout the year, so really, CCA is not that big a deal. Just buy any name brand battery that has a decent number of years rating. The price differential isn't really enough to spend a lot of time fussing over (unless you go with OEM or Optima, in which case, you are spending big money for an item that may not give you reasonable return).

First, as stated above, avoid the Optimas. They have had some QC problems with the yellow top series and have ceased production of our group 51 size. I had one for less than a year before it quit holding a charge. Thankfully, under warranty, Optima gave me a full refund in lieu of a replacement because of the production shut down.

I ended up going with a Die Hard Gold, which has a few more cold cranking amps (CCA) than the factory battery. So far, so good, but I've only had it a few months.

I currently have an Interstate in my car- it seems to work OK. I didn't choose it, one of my buddies borrowed my car for a couple of weeks while his BMW was in the shop. He killed my battery and replaced it with the Interstate.

The Interstate seems to be OK, my S2000 sits for weeks at a time locked up in a garage, with the Interstate it starts every time.

Your battery has lasted about as long as designed. In contrast, a 5-yr advertised battery only lasts about 1/2 that time here in the desert.
If you have a Costco card, see what they have.

You have to read his other thread to understand the "Crappy Tire!" reference.

Don't I feel stupid?
This thread has nothing about tread. However, let's not go there. I really hate those threads where people start to argue. That really ruins my S2ki experience.
Get a new battery, homey. Your current battery has served you well.
