Replacement Key
Not sure if this is the right place for this...but I wanted to pass this along.
So, I just bought my car off of a private party last week. He was the second owner...and when he bought the car a couple years ago, they only provided him with one key. So, earlier today I stopped by the Honda dealer to see about getting another made. They wanted like $175 for the key and then another 80 to cut and program it.
I definitely want to have a back up key for emergencies, but I thought it was worth it to look around a little more.
So, I stopped by a local locksmith. He couldn't do it, but he recommended a place a couple cities over. I called them, they were able to make me a key, cut and programmed for less than 60 bucks. Pretty good to the alternative.
I won't bother posting the name of the business, as most of you probably aren't from southern California...but I'm sure places like this exist all over the country. Helps to ask around I guess.
If anybody from so cal wants the name, just PM me.

btw, i've actually gotten a key cut/copied at a pepboys and the key works to lock/unlock the door and the center console but wont start the car. it actually turns on the engine but it wont crank over. could be useful as a backup.

I had a key laser cut I believe at Honda. They said well we have an oem one for $120, or a generic one for ($20 or $25 one of the two).
So I was like wow that's cheap! You need to go to another stealership, mine didn't charge for cutting.
^^ Post above, I bought a key on ebay for $8 but wouldn't work with the interceptor or whatever you call it. Key was also improperly cut so it takes some wiggling but will open a door or the trunk with trouble. Just go with a honda cut one to avoid trouble and you should be outraged if its over $40.

ap1 and ap2 keys are obviously different. i know the ap2 key itself costs about 180-200$ at the dealership. but there's a black ap2 key that doesn't have the S logo on it and those are like 30$. so if you just want a back up that should do the job. i really wanna replace my S key cause it's beat to hell but no way i'm paying 200$ alone for the key (and who knows much much extra to program/cut)
