Replacing a Headlight
The front (plastic outer shell) of my driver's side headlight assembly has a few deep scratches that have been bugging the heck out of me. How much would it cost just to have the plastic headlight casing replaced? I'll be taking my car into a body shop in the next week or two to have some other minor cosmetic repairs and I'm thinking about asking them to fix this if it's not too much. Thanks everyone!

Thanks, centralcoastbuc. I was hoping that you could purchase just the exterior clear plastic piece, but it looks like you need to purchase the entire unit as the clear plastic is integrated with everything else. $400 is a little bit much for fixing a couple of scratches. Clawhammer, I'll look around on ebay or this site for some used headlamps. Thanks!
Be very careful when purchasing headlights off of Ebay. I have noticed a lot of pictures of headlights have condensation "stains" in them. These headlights are either not sealing properly or have cracks/broken mounting tabs on the black plastic part on the rear of the headlight.

hit the scratched with maybe some 800 or 1000 grit sand paper, then 1500 or 2000 grit, then use some Novus 2 followed by Novus 1 plastic polish.. bet that would take care of it nicely.
edit: 2 oz bottles of novus 1 and 2 retail online for about $3 each plus ~6 shipping = $12.

If you do replace, you will need to replace the entire assembly. The unit comes sealed from the factory. If you could find one on E-bay where they tell you the rear is broken but the front is solid, you could use Rick's method for dissassembly and reassembly of the headlight.
