Release the clutch then give it gas. Sounds like you are on the gas (or never coming fully off the gas) before the clutch has pulled the motor back down to the next gear's rpm. Would be better if the motor dropped rpm when you lifted the gas and was at the next gear's rpm when the shifter went in to that gear. Then you could drop the clutch at the correct rpm. I know on motorcycles that are running lean, they will hang the rpm with the throttle off. On the S2000, I would bet that the driver's right foot is being lazy and not coming fully off the throttle. Giving the motor just enough to stay at high rpm unloaded.
i'm pretty vigilant about coming off the gas completely. i previously had a 2006 si, and i feel like my shifting technique hasn't changed between the two cars, and if there is a car that would display similar symptoms, it would be the Si, due to the DBW throttle. but this rev hang never happened with the Si.

i'll be more aware of the rpm next time, to make sure the revs drop a bit before fully getting on the gas.

okay, new (related) thought... the clutch engagement is closer to the floor in the Si (higher in the s2k), so maybe if i'm using the same technique, the clutch would be engaged in the Si slightly sooner than it would be in the S2K. maybe i need to re-learn how to shift fast?

A lot of aftermarket TBs tend to stay open for a while too, maybe your TB is sticking?

I have an 06. I have the same problem when shifiting at high revs really quick. Any info on how to remove the CDV? What are the disadvantages of having it removed?

Thanks in advance.

the CDV is a good thing for a longer clutch life.....it sucks when you try to launch your car thow

I have to go with the theory that if the clutch isn't slipping, then the tires are. What kind of tires are on the car? Even with the OEM S02's I sometimes get a satisfying chirp on the 1-2 shift, without any sign of clutch slipage, and I'm pretty sure CKit chirps his Pilot Sport Cups (R compound!) sometimes on a 2-3 shift. Well, maybe CKit isn't running a stock clutch, but I am, and the OEM S02's slip a lot more than the OEM clutch.

I think it's either the tires, or maybe the shift timing. For sure it's not a CDV on an AP1.

Especially in Vancouver, Canadia where the daytime highs are currently around 60F.

my revs seem to "hang" if i shift really quickly at high rpms.

for instance... 100% throttle in 3rd... 8000rpm... clutch in/throttle off... shift to 4th... clutch out/100% throttle.

what happens is, the revs will hang at 8000 for about 1.5 - 2 seconds before dropping to ~6000 (as opposed to instantaneously dropping when clutch engaged)

- i'm NOT powershifting (keeping throttle in while clutch goes in)
- clutch doesn't seem to be fading in any other conditions (eg, i can start in 4th from a stop and the clutch doesn't slip
- if i granny shift at that rpm, the clutch acts as normal
- if i release-then-stab the gas when the revs are hanging the rpm will drop to normal.

WHAT GIVES?!?!
i had the same problem exactly as you've described. i also posted this question...maybe a month ago? at that time i was sure my clutch wasn't slipping, but soon after my post, i felt my clutch slip. so my guess would be that your clutch is on its way out. if you chirp your tires, that's proof that your tires temporarily slip, but the hanging RPM definitely sounds like a clutch that's about to go.

no disadvantage. CDV is a biotch. its a DIY mod, if you search the forum. i took mine to a shop, however.

maybe original poster needs lighter flywheel or driveshaft

I'm using the OEM S02's, with about 50% life left. i don't think the tires are slipping - there's no wheep hop or indicative screetching, and i'm definitely not chirping the 3-4 shift. That being said, it has been pretty slippery on Vancouver roads lately.

From what you guys have said, it sounds like the clutch is proabably on its way out.

And i'm just in denial. Dang. There's a cool $1000 that I wasn't planning on spending.
