Rev-inhibitor when engine is cold?
I turned 640 miles last night and decided to wind it out (but keep it under 8K) on my lunch hour. I think I may have run into the "rev-limiter" because I took off in 1st gear and when it got to 6500, the car jerked back like the fuel line was cut. I started to think about it, then I looked at the heat gague--one bar. "Damn! I forgot to wait for three bars!" I knew about the warm-up time, but when I got behind the wheel on this 65 degree, sunny day, I just lost my head in anticipation. My question is, could I have hurt the car by doing this? Obviously it won't happen again.

potentially yes...
the oil is a little thicker when cold thus it doesn't flow as well. I donno about the S2K, but other cars, well my B16 with JDM ECU, has a lower cold temp rev limiter... I think about 6000 as well... while the "normal" limiter is 9000.

Don't make a habit of it...!
But even still, it's there to protect the engine. You didn't do anything to harm it.
I actually wait much longer than 3 bars. I forget what gives the OK for the 3rd bar to appear, but I wait longer so that all pressures and fluids are closer to be up to temp. I think problems have been caused by people who don't wait long enough to pound on the gas...but of course, that is just a feeling.

No damage...Honda has two VTEC inhibitors I am aware of to protect the engine (and we all know Honda is an Engine Company). The other VTEC inhibitor is related to oil pressure. This is why if your oil is too low (or too full for that matter) you can't VTEC either.

Has anyone ever seen 4 bars? Maybe I haven't been paying attention but I don't think I've seen the temperature indicator rise above 3...ever. I guess thats good, but I'd like a little finer granularity in my gauges. I like to know when the engine is a tad hotter than normal. Its a shame there isn't a toggle on the RPM gauge to have it cycle through other inputs- like speed, temperature, oil pressure, fuel, projected vehicle life (hahaha), % to next oil change, time in bars, etc......that would be sweet. It would make an awesome mod too.
I've hit the rev limiter at least 4 or 5 times below 3 bars. For a long time I didn't know better
I think I even posted asking why my car cuts out on me...haha
