Default rev-limiter

no, not the same question as usual (at least i don't think so).

i got in an accident almost two months ago, and have since gotten my car back. anyway, is there anyway the body shop could have accidentally disabled the rev-limiter? or maybe they disabled it and forgot to enable it again? the other day, i revved to about 7.5-8k on one bar...i definitely didn't feel the VTEC kick in, but i remember previously that the fuel should've cut off at 6k. also, i think i've redlined a few times and the entire red area lit up and the limiter never kicked in at all...i don't remember that happening before either...coulda sworn the limiter kicked in just after 9k.

last thing, i have to do it again, but i think the last few times i've revved high in 1st gear, the engine didn't switch profiles until about 6.5 or 7k. any possible explanation for that? thanks.

edit: well, i think i may have found a possible answer for the last question (VTEC kicks in at a higher rpm if you accelerate slower?)...nothing on the main part yet though.

to my knowledge it would be impossible for the body shop to change your rev limiter both cold and normal on your ECU. our ECU is not flashable and not programmable, therefore it can't be changed.

hehe, maybe they bought you an AEM EMS and gave you a base map.

wisconsin is right. they cannot modify any of that stuff. changing vtec would need a new ecu or a vtec controller.

thanks for the replies. so if the body shop can't do it, what other ways could that happen? can the rev-limiter just "go bad" and stop working? i'll make sure after work again to see if they're gone for real...i could just be imagining things.

The rev limiter is not based on the water temp. It's based on oil temp. You can have hot oil and cool coolant and it will pass 6.5K without issue. The "3 bar" rule is just a guestimate based on a car that is generally cool (morning start). Since we don't have an oil temp gauge there is no way to know for sure. 3 bars on the water temp will pretty much guarantee you won't hit it. Below that it's anyones guess.
