Question Rev question

First off I'm new to this forum and I just recently got my used 04 SS S2000 with 11.5k miles on it last week. Anyways, we were coming home from Walmart and I was going 55-60 mph and then reached a slow driver going about 45-50ish and decided to downshift to 4th and pass him up, but I misshifted and got into 2nd instead and hit redline for about 1 to 2 seconds. The car still drives fine but I just wanna know, did I do damage?? I don't usually drive fast, but in that case, I had to. This is my second 6spd vehicle so I know that the gears are a lot closer, but I don't know how high each gear spins up to as in MPH. I know that my STi I used to have was just shy of reaching 60mph in 2nd gear .

I've searched on this topic but want feedback from you guys based off specifically on my mistake and story.

Thanks in advance for any info.

You should post this in the under the hood forum. It sounds like you are describing a mechanical over rev. If that is the case, then yes there could be damage. Welcome and good luck.

Doing 60 and going down to second...hmm..my friend was driving my car and he was doing 40 and went to 3rd and hit 1st (somehow) and did this 3 times in a row. I had it checked out and there was no damage. It did hit rev limiter every time he did it. I had to put it in 3rd for him and tell him to pull over. Its possible there could be damage, and its possible that theres not.

runs to about 57 in 2nd. should be fine. i've downshifted going into corners agressively from 60+ into 2nd. may not be the healthiest thing to do but keep in mind an aftermarket ecu (j's, mugen, etc..) raises the rev limit a couple hundred rpm's.

Worst case scenario:
60mph in 2nd = 8400 rpm.

You're OK. Don't do it again and don't do it from any higher speeds or you'll be sorrryyyy!

Please people, try to unerstand the difference between "bouncing off the rev limiter" and a mechanical over-rev. These two are separate and distinct scenarios. One does no harm if done every once in a while. The other can put your engine in the dumpster if done severely. Go do a Google search and educate yourselves.
