This can be misleading and needs to be clarified.

This speed calculator can demonstrate that both 2.0L and 2.2L engines (AP1 and AP2) can be "safely" downshifted at 60 mph into 2nd gear:

The 2.0L engine will be well under redline and the 2.2L engine will be around 8400 rpm (not that big of a deal).

HOWEVER, should the correct technique be used, NEITHER engine will survive a downshift into "1st gear" from 60 mph. Chances are, the driver won't survive either once the car spins out and slides into a tree.
