sew it up with a needle and thread. take a pretty thick, black iron-on patch and apply it on the inside(on both driver and passenger sides) with a bbq lighter(the patch works with heat). my holes were pretty bad so i've just left the stitching on there. gives it character imo. my room mate calls my car frankenstein.
edit: there's really no long term solution to making the tear invisible. when the top is put down the top folds in that exact spot. any sort of putty or solution you put on the tear to cover it will crack within a month or two. the only solution is to get a new top. trust me. i've tried everything.

And you can make the repair almost completely invisible. Because the top has no weave to it, be careful trying to sew it. Sewing adds a visible edge and the thread will slowly cut your top material as it's not cloth, it's plastic..
If you repair it on the inside, using a flexible bonding agent like material glue, and push the tear together, when it's dry, you can fill the remaining slot with threads from your patch material to make it even more invisible if you need to. You can use a razor to shave off any threads sticking up.
Good luck with it, what ever method you choose. Just take your time and you'll have good luck with your repair.

Bump for an old but very helpful thread.
I have some wear marks in the passenger side of the top that hasn't developed a hole yet. I did the TSB, replaced the straps, and bought some lizard skin chainstay guards for the support arms, but want to apply a patch as well since the fabric is worn in a spot on the inside and might still develop a hole/rip over time. I went to the local Joann fabric store and called some other local ones but they don't stock sunbrella.
It's probably easiest/faster to just buy it online now, and I'm assuming this sunbrella should do the trick? http://www.sailrite.com/Sunbrella-46...0-Jet-Black-46
Lastly, when applying the patch, how did you apply it? Just make large strips and slather it with glue on the inside, and apply it with the top unlatched and let it dry? Or does it only need a little glue? Is the glue visible on the outside of the top? Also, is there any particular fabric glue that's better than others? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the great info. I'll be sure to post some pictures when I finally do it.

I have two wear marks on my top that I hope to take care of over the weekend. I ordered the Modifry fix for the loose elastic bands which is what is causing my wear issues.
I plan on using some heavy duty canvas material to patch on the inside. There are no holes yet, so this is a preventative measure. I will probably use some fabric cement as that stuff holds up very well (my wife is a fabric hobbyist and swears by it). I plan on leaving the outside of the top alone for now as it's not showing any visible signs of issue, which makes me pretty lucky as this is an 05!!!

Reckon,
Where are your wear marks? You might already know this, but the TSB that's released to deburr the support bar on the passenger side is the cause of a common wear mark just behind the passenger seat. The bar is rough from the factory, and with the top down causes a wear on the fabric on the inside in one spot. Filing the rough spot down and applying some paint will help it greatly.
I'm going to apply some patches to the inside and will try and find some "fabric cement" at a local joann fabrics as well. Do you know whether the glue applied on the inside will show on the outside at all? I know next to nothing about fabrics..
