so tonight was perfect topdown weather. i pull into a parking lot. put the windows down. undo the latches. redo the latches and put the top down. 3/4 way down i hear a loud POP and i'm thinkin "sh1t! the top didnt fold down correctly and shattered the rear window." i put the top back up and to my relief the glass was intact. i look up and there it was...the evening sunset shining through my soft-tops 1inch of glory..UGH.
those of you that know me know that i'm pretty meticulous about taking care of my tops and hence them always being glossy and not faded. i've owned 2 s2000s in the course of 3.5 years...and this is never happened. my 2002 ap1 with 86000 miles soft top lasted longer than this 2007 ap2 with only 25000 miles. and the ap1 was kept outside!
taking it to the dealer tomorrow...they better replace it under warranty and not give me any BS about neglect and vandalism.

sigh....
another one bites the dust.
I'm curious to see how this will play out with honda.
To say someone would want to vandalize a new top for a new top replacement? That is so silly. Why would you want to get something new when it was new in the first place?
My top just ripped, I haven't taken it in based on the posts I have read about older MY with the extended warranties. I just plan on patching it with vinyl patches from the inside. It has not materialized to be anything horrible yet....but its the point.
Sorry to hear and good luck to you sir.

dp you know what caused this? I've had my elastic straps not pull back the middle bar but this didn't happen.... The only thing I can think of is if the latches popped back out after you latched them? It looks like the latches did the damage.
Did you leave the latches unlatched while you were putting the top down? Definately looks like the latches were the cause of this.
Honda has been real shitty about replacing tops under warranty though. Theyll do EVERYTHING they can NOT to do it.

Guys,
Since I just got a used '07 and taken the top down once. Can you guys confirm the steps. I don't have a manual for this car.
To open the top....
1. Pull hand brake up while in neutral.
2. roll down windows
3. unlatched boths sides off the locks
4. relatched again but this time just the outside mechanism
5 press the little button backward.
To the original OP, what dealership are you planning to take to? I am in the socal area.
Also, when I had my 350z roadster, the dealer replaced it no questions ask when I had 31K on the odometer. There was a TSB for the seam on the back that came loose, but my had a cut on the front.
Goodluck to you and let us know.
