So I'm cruising home after a looong day (top down even though it's freezing out) and before I could properly react, ran over something that I'm trying to convince myself was a flattened plastic 2 liter soda bottle - f'ed-up L.A. FWYS No damage of any kind was done, but at night stuff comes up on you quick. I recall several posts where owners had run into concrete/metal pieces so I'm just relieved it was not some object that could have inflicted 'real' damage. Anyhow, if you've had such an encounter please share... it's always nice to know others drive on the same 'f'ed-up' highways.
i was on the nj parkway alllll alone and a rock the size of a baseball bounced up and hit my passenger mirror right on the point where it meets the base. put a nice scuff there.
it was LOUD.
i guess thats the best part of the car it could have hit though.
I've had semitruck tires blow up in front of me twice now. I've been pelted with small chucks of rubber both times, thankfully I had quick enough reaction time to swerve and avoid a huge piece (probably about half the tire) coming straight at my windshield. I did have to pick chunks out of my front bumper though behind the grill. Luckily hitting the grill must have slowed the peices down enough and deflect them so no damage to the radiator fins.
about 2 years ago, after i had just bought a set of VSXX wheels, I was driving down the 10 freeway. It was raining then, there was a storm if I remember. As you know, when it rains its hard to see, so I was minding my own business in the slow lane, Then WHAM! I hit big piece of cinderblock. I didnt stop at side of the road because of the rain since the car seems to be fine. I drive for another mile to my house and as soon as I get there, I notice the passenger front tire is flat. took off the wheel and the inside of the rim bent up just enough to let the air leak slowly. Damn I hate driving in the rain...
In Aug I was behind a "stake truck' that was loaded with construction materials. Well as luck would have it some pieces of 2x12 started falling off the back and before I was able to miss all the wood a piece or 2 hit the passenger side of my car, nearly taking me in the head. The truck driver kept on going. Luckily my insurance covered the repair for the quarterpanel, wheel, antenna and tire.
I hit a road sign that was lying in the road with the concrete footing still attatched on an onramp a couple of weeks ago. It wasted my front bumper and tore all of the plastics off underneath the car, including the fender liner on the passenger side. The car came off of the ground when the passenger side wheel hit it and then came down on the block right in front of the rear wheel, which put a huge dent in the rocker. The back wheel then hit it and made the car jump up again. Somehow it tore up the exhaust back there too. No wheels were bent, but the repair estimate is $4700!
My insurance company said I am at fault because I should have seen it (it was evening and I was looking in my rearview mirror trying to merge onto the freeway) So, I am paying the deductible and they notified me that my rates will increase when I renew.
last week i was driving on the highway it was at night, and i was cruising at like 80 when all of a sudden i see a big piece of plastic laying in the road, either someones spoiler/wing/ or front lip??? i duno. didnt have time to swerve, i hit it with my front tire it went flying up behind my car. no damage tho. scared the chit out of me
The first week I had my Boxster, I was running down the highway at night in a line of traffic and the retards a few cars up had not secured the mattresses in their truck. I was about the third in line to run right over it. Fortunately, all it did was bent the corner of one of the underside plates a little and put a small scratch in front of the rear wheel down low (was hard to see). What's with people not tying down mattresses? I see them all over the sides of the highways.
In the S, some idiot in a pickup on a winding road thought he could outpace me, and had a cooler sliding around in the back. I was ready when the top finally broke off it and some stuff flew out - didn't hit any, but at least he stopped - I still passed him with the one finger salute flying.
Seriously - rope - have people heard of it? It's not that expensive! And for the love of God don't even BUY bungee cords. Saw another idiot going down the highway with his kayak on top held with two bungee cords. Needless to say, the boat was floating about a foot off of his roof. Plus, have you ever had one of them snap and hit you in the face?
Rant over. I just hate people who lack common sense, or don't really even care.
