I really don't think you have any thing to worry about. They are pretty reliable

Unless you're going to be driving on unpaved roads I don't think you need to worry. Make sure you have plenty of tread on the tires before the trip, (check the rear close) carry extra oil just in case and check it everytime you buy gas, and carry water for yourself. Maybe a little cash to pad the pockets of any police that need a little extra.

Oh, and enjoy the trip.

The extra oil is certainly important - otherwise, have fun - and try not to get pulled over too many times

I would get a set of tires of cheapo tires for the trip so you don't waste some of the best miles of the stock s02s on the highway. These tires have a tendancy to wear fast, and some people have had worn out tires at 6k. It would be a shame to buy the car and then turn around and spen 1k on tires right away.

Good point, though if you're just driving straight at constant speed on the highway, I doub't you'd wear the rears out in 6k miles. However, the fronts may wear on the insides with all that highway driving.

I'm sorry you're being consigned to a third-world country. I only hope all the roads between here and your destination are paved. I can't imagine driving the S on unpaved or poorly maintained roads. Good luck!
