Default Road Trip Experiences

So... I just got back from a 650 or so mile road trip and these were my experiences:

-I was nearly merged into three separate times!
-Had two opposing traffic gravel trucks spray my car with gravel, good thing my windshield already had a a crack in it, otherwise I would have shit a brick.
-Had the worst experience crossing the mountain pass with the S02's in a thunderstorm. Pretty sad when trucks and minivans are flying past with no problem.

All in all, a pretty hair-raising experience, but the feeling I got carving through the mountains top down was amazing. I was surprised at how comfortable the seats were for me as well. In most cars driving for longer than 1-2 hours gives me a horrible backache. In the S, I felt pretty comfortable the whole time. Just thought I would share my experience and see if anyone else had some interesting road trip stories.

sweet

from what i read people seem to enjoy long trips in their S and say it's very comfortable, just that you can't recline the seat all the way back.

Why was the thunderstorm a problem? Were you hydroplaining?

Merging into you is also a little confusing. Were you in the blind spot or just so low truckers couldn't see you

Went from Central wisconsin to Phoenix Wisconsin in my celica. 1800 miles each way.

I DID get merged into, had to go to the shoulder at 80.
After about 1000 miles, my transmission decided to throw a pin. Lost 5th gear and Reverse.

Drove the remainding 2600 miles in 4th gear.

But, the view/picture i took on top of flagstaff mtn was AMAZING.

So beautiful and worth every penny the trip cost.

Merged into meaning a couple big SUV's and one 4 door Accord. Just people being careless and not looking for a small car when I was passing in the left passing lane.

The thunderstorm was bad because I could not see in front of me and started to hydroplane. Had to slow down to 35 to just make it drivable and even pull over a couple of times. Thankfully it only lasted a few miles but definitely the most scary experience in the S thus far.

Anyone else almost been merged into while driving their S2k?

Good tires help alot - if you have more than 15K on your S02s you should check the tread depth and the manufacture date of the tires.

Unfortunately it's like a weekly occurance. I NEVER drive in someone's blind spot and if they put their car in a position where they can't see me I get out of the way ASAP.

sounds like you had a good trip though! The s2k sounds wonderful with rain hitting the soft top doesn't it!

Same here, I've had to resort to flashing my brights if I see some SUV teetering between lanes while I'm trying to pass.
