Default Rollbar hoop covers?

Hey guys I recently had my car tinted at a certain shop and while tinting it they to get to the back window so they snapped apart the rollbar hoops. Once they was done they tried to snap it back together but it wouldn't come together. So now my question is did they take it off wrong and its permanently damaged or is it fixable? The guy said he would pay for new ones if it can't be fixed but my local honda dealership isn't open due to the recent storm, so any feedback would be great, thanks.

John

They are permanently damaged. The covers and bars are a single Honda Part. The covers are heat welded together. Once you take them apart, you can get them back together. I know it is not what you wanted to hear.

I think there is one thread where someone found something that would glue them back together, but finding a glue that will work is the hard part. So far it has been done successfully by one member in 6 years. many have tried and failed.

That one guy was me. They are definitely not meant to come apart. Putting them back togther requires a lot of cleaning and preparation and some two part epoxy. Doable, but not ideal.

I have a feeling your tint shop is going to get a shock when they see how much replacement costs.

Make that 2. I also had to put them back together. I used a 2 part epoxy as well. The key is to find a glue that will withstand really high temps and really low temps.

No, since someone else is paying, the key is to just have them buy new parts.

Please update with the price to replace. I am curious. Sorry for your misfortune, but it's good they are paying!

Since somebody else is paying, I wouldn't worry.

If I had to attach those myself, I'd use a very thin bead of silicone. It will withstand pretty much any temperature, is flexable enough to withstand tons of vibration, and I generally trust it (used it before for many things).

That tint shop is looking at about $130.00 US for each roll bar cover, probably more from the local Honda dealer.

But that's not where it ends. Replacing those things requires a lot of disassembly of the interior.

I think Aus tried everything, including this (see his post). Silicone is too soft. It may hold the pressure of an aquarium but I doubt it will hole the connection between two such really thin pieces of plastic that is trying it's darndest to always pull itself apart. They heat weld the two halves together for a reason.
