Default Roof latch snaps at 104 mph

Top up. Open road. Going about 104 mph - big noise and a air rush from passenger side.

Passenger side roof latch had snapped (the hook broke). Corner gap between windshield and top looked about a 1" wide. Being fixed under warranty.

Moral of the tale: keep your top down

You might try(if you dont already) using the manual hand slot located in the middle of the top, to snug down the top before actuating the latches.

I find that the electric top leaves about a 1/2" gap which if not taken in manually puts a lot of pressure on the latches to close by themselves. I know if I don't do that, it feels like I am going to break either the latch or the latch post.

I hope I explained that clearly.

There's a service bulletin for the latches - check with your dealer. I just had mine replaced (in France) without me even asking.

Another thing you might try is to alternate your closing sequence. Most people tend to close the same one every time.

Since the first latch usually has the biggest gap to take up, it might help to switch back and forth.

I bought my S used and the passenger latch was broken when I picked it up

I had it replaced under warranty and now I close both latches at the same time. No problems since then

Never had a problem with latch before - would generally use middle hand slot and quickly close each latch - never adjusted the latches. Don't know if too loose is worse than too tight. Dealer just called and car is ready to be picked up with a new latch.

i've always latched both at the same time ... and to me it seems like this would limit the stress on the latches over time (rather than trying to alternate which latch you do first). i've never noticed any gap. glad to hear they are fixing on their dime!

My top has a bit of gap on the right side when it comes back up.I just synch closing the latch with the top's operation. I use my left hand to operate the top's switch and use the right hand to close the right latch first - keeping the finger on the switch as I close the latch. This way there is never a gap when the latch is being closed and there's no extra force needed.

Having said that, my latch still broke a few days ago. Not the hook but the piece of plastic that keeps the latch in place when you lock it. I could not believe it's make out of cheap plastic!!

I believe the TSB is on the striker and not on the latch itself. The striker is the part that is attached to the top of the front windshield. The latch is the part that is attached to the roof. The striker TSB is for early model S2000's (MY2000 only, I think).

The TSB for the strikers completely eliminates excess wind noise. Fantastic.
