Default Rough Engine Starts and Stops

When I start or kill my engine, sometimes it feels a little rough. I mean rough as in... I feel the car shake a bit. Is this normal due to the power of our engines? Or is there something possible wrong with my car.

Since I bought my S used, could this just be my paranoia from buying a used car?

I could be totally wrong but I had a simular problem on my 3000GT VR-4 before I sold it to get a S2000. It turned out to be bad motor mounts which was causing shaking every now and then in my 3000. Remember I am not the smartest one here so I could be wrong.

Only 26k... I notice that it is more rough when I kill the motor too. Sometimes when I start, it may not be as rough... but it won't start smoothly and will shake more than I was used to on my last car... a Del Sol

from what i read, it sounds ilke normal operation. this car is not your typical honda, you will hear many noises and feel things that sound bad, but you will soon realize that it's just normal. if it makes you feel any better, try test driving another s2000 in your area and see if you experience the same thing. if you have extended warranty, i'd have honda check it out.

good luck.

I bought my s2k used with 22k miles on it. At first, all the noises scared me... the loose clutch plate... the loud engine, rougher engine starts/kills... but I've had it for 3 months now and am now starting to accept it all as normal behavior for such a high compression engine...

Thanks for the confirmation, though... you have really given me much needed piece of mind!

mine is also rough on starts and stops. One thing that will help with the starts is to hold the start button longer. If you just push it quickly only long enough for it to turn over the engine will sputter until it works its way to idle. There is nothing you can do on the stops and would not be surprised if that were normal for an engine with such a high compression ratio because the engine stops quicker once the power is cut...
