Default Rough Part Under Black Windshield Tape

i peeled off the black windshield tape off my car recently and notice right above the driver side on the opposite side of the catcher there is a dull spot.. and in the middle it almost look like it is lacking paint.. i run my finger over it and could feel it indenting.

Does anyone know what i should do? how common is this problem? its damn ugly!

You have 3 choices:

a). Live with it.
b). Put the tape back on.
c). Repaint the area.

I pulled the tape off the day I got it. There were two areas that looked like the paint was not buffed or the clear coat was not applied.

I used an alternating procedure of Dupont heavy-duty rubbing compound (green can-paste) and Scratch-X.

I had to work at it maybe 3-4 times but it came out looking like the rest of the car. Don't be too agreessive with the compound-you could take it down to primer with too much pressure! Just 'sneak up' on the desired finish.

In all fairness, since it was covered in tape I didn't expect the finish to be perfect.

I was lucky, I've heard of some that had to respray the area.

Regards,

BD

I have two dull patches once I pulled the tape off.. why isn't the area under the tape finished properly?

I want to take mine off something fierce but I don't like surprises..... Especially where it's located it's high VIS and I don't like flaws. I'd probably end up spend an A$$ load of money fixing it when I should be spending the money on something else.

I guess when I feel "lucky" I'll roll the dice and peel mine off.....

The longer you wait, the more the tape becomes 'stuck'.

As it was on a 90 degree day with a car that was about 2 months from its build date, it was a tough job taking all the tape off- it came off in little strips which was a PIA to get off- not to mention the residual adhesive.

Its acctually Easier Hot then Cold. I heard of people having to whoop out a hairdryer to take this sucker off. Not me. Living in Miami was heat enough. All i needed was alittle bug-remover/goo-gone and a quick buff with a spray on wax, and it came out looking great. I had the Car for about 4 months.

it took me 2 hours to remove and clean the tape off. I still have a little imperfection on the passenger side, but overall it was not too bad. I'm glad I took mine off.
