Has any one measured the width of the S-03s on the stock rim? Does this match the 245-255 measurement of the stock S-02s? It has been well documented that the stock tires are larger than the 225 measurement indicates. The largest 16" S-03 is the 225. This would mean a 205/225 combo and I'm concerned that we won't have enough rubber on the back. Anyone with thoughts/comments on this issue?

I'm confused... stock S-02's are 205 and 225... at least they are here in Chicago

They are labeled a such, but there actual physical measurments are larger, about the same as other MFG's 245 series tires.

I've heard that the OEM tires are wider than they are rated. Does anyone know why a manufacturer would do this? It sure makes replacing the tire more confusing.

Many threads have talked about this topic profusely. Nobody really knows why, but the stock rear 225 is more like everybody elses 245. After my stock tires wore down, I've switched to a set of 245/45/16 Bridgestone S02 Pole Positions that were still narrower than the stock tires. I'm currently on a set of 245/45/16 Michelin Pilot Sports that are pretty darn close to the width of the stock tires.

Here's a good link to read up on.

Colin,

I have the new S-03s in 17". 245/40-17 on the rear.
Look in this thread, http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...?threadid=14476 , where you will find a comparative photo of the stock rear S-02 and the 245 S-03. From my experience with the S-03s so far, I would say that a 225 S-03 in 16" would NOT be the same width as our stock 225 S-02s.

Here is the photo:
stock 225 S-02 and 245/40-17 S-03

Because they are built for a customer that has certain specifications.

BTW, the S03's are designed for much improved performance in wet conditions, but that forces a more open tread pattern. Even at the same width there is less rubber on the ground.

Good point ... considering that the S02s are 'custom', least they could have done is written the correct measurements on them. How hard would it have been to measure them and put 235/45/16" (or 245/40/16") on them? It is very odd that they would not print the 'correct' size on the tyres.
