Thumbs up ?'s on buying a new '05

so maybe these are dumb questions, but i'm just a little curious nontheless.

so once the snow melts here in Wisconsin, i'm planning on buying new GPW from Jeff (Hardtopguy). on his site, it still shows the '04s.. any idea when that will be updated to the '05s? and any idea on price? i'd like to try working on the local dealerships around here early to see if i even need to bother with them when the time comes to get my own S2000.

also, i remember reading back earlier this year PMantis24 got an '04 from Jeff also, but he ordered his a few months before he wanted to take delivery. in his story, he mentioned something about when he ordered his car, it wasn't actually even made yet... is this common? i kinda thought Honda would have all of the current MY cars constructed before they started selling them..

sorry if these questions are dumb.. like i said, i'm just curious.

Not dumb questions at all

I would think the price for the '05s will be only slightly higher, if I'm not mistaken the MSRP increased by $150.

When you buy a car you don't necessarily have to take dealership stock. The S is also not something as common as a Civic where you would rarely pre-order one. I'm sure Jeff had a few S' in stock that I could've taken, but since I wasn't ready to take delivery right away they timed the arrival perfectly so that I would get my car in the spring.

I only put a deposit to hold a car that was going to built anyway. I'm sure if for some reason I backed out that once the car reached their dealership it would be bought by someone else

Dealers are also allocated a certain number of each model depending on their sale volume, so even if someone doesn't order one, they have a set # coming into their dealership.

I could be wrong about all of this lol, someone correct me if I am

Can't go wrong with Jeff! Don't bother checking with your local dealer.

I did the same thing this year on a 2004. I got 100 over invoice in Feb.

The test drive was in 9 degree weather. (Top up)

Anyway, PM me and I can send the dealer info (In IL). Very pleasant experience as far as car buying went.

What's the redline on the 05's? Is it back to 9K?

Not true....

I was asking because I saw this thread. If you take a look it's a new 05 with a redline of 9k:

MY NEW BERLINA BLACK/RED 05 under GALLERY

Mossad explains:
Only the US 2004s and 2005s have the new 2.2L, which tops out at 8,000RPM. The engine was kept the same (2.0L, 9,000RPM) for the rest of the world, though the guage cluster was given the new post '04 treatment as well.

I didn't know honda did this....

itzkoo was right, you asked if the '05s went back to 9k rpm, they didn't.

In '04 the US got the 2.2L and the rest of the world kept the 2.0L, nothing has changed in '05.

So itzkoo was right by saying same as my04, since nothing changed in '05.
