I suppose we all fit into two categories as S2K owners with respect to tires: Those who have bought new tires and those who will.

I just picked up a nail which produced a slow leak in the right rear tire. The tread is still good on all other tires, so I'm looking to replace the stock tire.

Here is the question: Where are the best prices on the net this week for an SO-2?

I did a few yahoo searches, but the came up with only a few vendors, there must be more.

Unfortunately (in this case), I live in Alaska and shipping charges will be huge (no such thing as UPS ground).

Thanks for any and all suggestions -

Have you tried a patch?

Last year I had a nail cause a slow leak as well. The local tire shop made things as good as new.

I thought we had all the construction nails in the road but I suppose some other folks have them.

Patching? Hmmm....

I had considered a repair, but the idea of a plug didn't sound too good. Are you saying they patched the tire (from the inside)?

I wouldn't mind having the tire repaired, but I wouldn't want a surprise at high speed either!

Most tire shops won't try to repair a tire with a patch or plug if the tire is considered "high performance" (i.e. dictated by speed rating). The patches don't hold up to the heat generated by high-speed driving.

Patch yes, plug no.

A couple of other owners have also had good results with this approach.

I have driven the car routinely at highway speeds after this repair without incident.

Could you define "highway speeds"?

I am not sure that I would trust a patch at 140+. Seems like the $189 for a new S0-2 would be better than a tire problem at "high speed". IMO of course.

When I lived up in Alaska (20 years in Eagle River) -- I found that Costco (is it still in Anchorage?) would special order tires for prices comparable to Tirerack.

I can't imagine only driving the S six months a year!

Is driving the Turnagain arm a blast in the S2000??

$170-175 is an good deal based on my experience. My mom works for a local tire retailer and can get me SO-2 at $5 over cost. I think she quoted them at around $175.

So unless you can order them in bulk, I'm not sure how much lower you can get them. I would be interested to see if you do though.
