S2000 for a 20yr old? Your Thoughts PLZ!
Hey all! I'm new to the boards.
I am currently looking to buy a S2000. However, I am in a little dilemna. Should I get a 2000 (Grand Prix white) for $22K or a 2002 (Silver) for $23.7K. I can easily talk to 2000 to about 20-21K but I doubt he will budge on the 2002. We will see. Is there really going to be a difference in the car itself?
And finally, is this car suitable for a 20 yr old? I'm in LOVE with the car. Everything about it. I just want to know if it's practical for a year-round car.
Thx in advance for your thought and opinions!!

Im 18, its in storage for winter time. Thank god for a winter beater. Its not great in snow, especially with the summer tires. From personal experience with snow tires this car is totally driveable in the winter time. Basically look at it this way. S2000 on summer tires in the winter is still better then a Grand Prix anyday!!!!
i was 19 when i got the car, now im 20. if you're paying for school, make school your #1 priority and pay the school bills first. if you got extra money to spend, definately go for it. just be mature about it and dont go showing off in front of people, you'll end up in trouble(or in a ditch).

Yup...the most important thing is to be responsible about it and knowing that you look good in the car without having to show off. I think a lot of people get in trouble (i.e. accidents, tickets, etc.) when they get carried away with pushing the car to its limits - and not realizing that they've already surpassed their own limits.

seriously, when i see a nice car going fast and doing crazy shit on public roads, i say to myself "what a jackass, trying to showoff"
if i see a nice car and see the car doing the speed limit, i think to myself" wow, that guy knows he has a fast/nice car but doesnt need to show off". i got more respect for these types of people.
stay safe.

Sometimes I think it should be illegal for anyone under 25 to drive this car. "suitable for a 20 yr old?" Hell no. But that opinion hasn't stopped me from owning one at 21, and it's not likely to stop you either. You're only young once. So just be careful. And do a search on this forum and read all the stories of wrecked S2000's, so you know what not to do.
I think you'd be a lot better off with the 2002, especially since the price difference is small. It has a glass rear window with defogger as well as some other minor changes. It's also probably still under warrantee. However, you didn't mention the mileage of the two cars you're considering and that should be a major factor in your decision as well.
As for it being a year-around car... I've never had mine in bad weather but from what I've read on this board it does ok in snow IF you have winter tires. DON'T drive in snow on the factory tires. Whether you want to make this your daily driver really has to be your decision. I wouldn't want to, but many people do and are quite happy. "Practical for a year-round car?" It's not "practical" for anything, but it sure is fun!
