Well, after a number of failed attempts to create something usable from the file that I have, I have decided to move on to something a little different. I just can't justify spending the countless hours required to fill in every surface of the model.

I was feeling both frustrated and ambitious about this yesterday so I built an LMP-type racecar model while waiting for a few work-related analyses to complete. I'm actually very pleased with it.

Through my familiarity with LMP cars, I had a decent basic design in my head to work from. One of the interesting things I found was that as I added more and more detail, the car looked more and more like an F1 car with side pods. Pics up soon to show what I mean....

 

 

Some prelim results. I'll run an exhaustive analysis tonight to get more accurate numbers.

Velocity: 150 mph
Drag: 431.63 lb
Downforce: 1069.74 lb

The Cd is very high at 1.07
