S2000 the answer for an aging hipster?
I'm not the aging hipster, my dad is. Our family (by family I mean me and my dad, my mom has no taste) has an appreciation for nice cars (he was the proud owner of an '87 911 for a period of time) so that allowed me to get a WRX on the condition that my dad could drive it from time to time. Yes, I drive responsibly. However my dad is going to need a car soon and he and I are throwing around various ideas on what to get. The WRX is actually very practical with its four doors, so we're thinking that he can get another nice car. He likes my WRX, but I don't want to have 2 of those in the garage, 1 ugly duckling is enough. I was thinking that the S2000 has the performance and the handling comparable to the WRX (except no AWD which my dad likes) with looks to match. The car would be used as a daily driver with some spirited driving from time to time.
Is the S2000 a good choice? Is there anything we should know about it? Basically, how cool is the S2000?
On a side note, 4 of my dad's co-workers just retired in the past couple months, 1 got a 911 Carrera 2, 3 got S2000s. Hmm...
Thanks.

This car would be the perfect tonic for your father and it would give him a great opportunity to meet and hang out with some men at a similar level of maturity:
Since you're in NOVA and there are quite a few of we older owners in the Mid-Atlantic and Delaware Valley S2000 clubs who attend events on a regular basis and who are absolute fanatics about this car, your father will have a blast. Do it!

I have a S2000. My bro has a WRX. What I can tell you is that they both deliver a similar level of performance in speed, cornering and excitement. However, they go about it in totally different ways. My advise would be for you and your dad to test drive the S2000. I am sure neither of you will find it lacking in any area except for mid range thrust. (something the "Rex" has in spades!)

I overheard some goofball commenting to one of his friends about my car, "Someone must be going through a mid-life crisis"......only had they noticed the 23 yr old owner standing next to them, I wanted to say something, but I held back, and just climbed in my car!
Don't pass up the S2000 because his buds have it (unless they let him drive it all the time). I had a AWD car and it was a blast on snow and dirt, but it wasn't as fast as the WRX. I thouroughly enjoy my S2000 now. If he liked the RWD/rear engine of the 911, he should like the S2000.
So my advice is get the S2000, make 2 sets of keys for both cars, and first one up gets the choice. We'll see what car is first out of the garage more often.

I have heard that the S2k and WRX have a somewhat similar driving experience. With the WRX, power comes on at 3k rpm when the turbo kicks in and it feels a lot like VTEC at 6k in the S2000. Unfortunately, I only have first hand experience with the Impreza 2.5RS so I can't give you a better comparison.
