Default s2000 break in period

So, when you get a brand new s2k, the break in period should be approximately 1000 miles? From 0-1000 you should drive at about 3-4 rpm right? After your break in period, is it ok to redline it right away?

Also, if i am wrong about 1000 miles, what should it be? A very safe break in period and how should i break it in?

Per the 06 manual, don't exceed 5500 RPM for 600 miles or brake abruptly for 200 miles.

I can't. I'm not a moderator. Nevertheless, only an admin can ban someone.

BTW, roadster, he's joking!

my recollecition is that the 600 miles came from 1,000 km-
break in is 1,000km, but if you are in the states it is 600 miles...

no magic to it, its a "reasonable estimate" of the mileage needed to break in the engine...
and yes, you can vtec and drive it like you stole it once you pass the magic break in point!!

drive it like you stole it for the first 1k. Redline a lot. Do one burn out and/or donut a week. After you get past the first 1k then you can start to take it easy. Make sure to keep an eye on the blinker fluid though.

i kind of disregarded the factory break in procedure.

i took it easy on the clutch (no clutch drops, hard shifts, etc..) but i beat the hell out of the motor. the second i turned out of the dealer driveway i hit vtec.

i went with a systematic approach of gradually increasing throttle and rpm, working my way from 1/3 throttle 1/3 rpm's, all the way to full throttle redlining. with a cool down in between each run, followed by a "drive it like you stole it" run to the top of 5th gear.

at 600miles i gave it my first vtec launch and hard shifts.

i never really have believed in the gentle break in process when it involses a motor. only parts that need a gradual break in IMO is brake pads/rotors and clutch/flywheel.

VTEC at < 100 miles for me. Hell I broke my Type R in on the track.

This issue has been discussed to death.
