I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that I'm not...

Inside the key is a chip that in proximity to the ignition completes a circuit which allows the ECU to work properly.
Sometimes, having another type of RF raidator (the Mobil Speedpass) next to the key has been know to confuse the circuitry to the point whereby it's a "no go!"
So, taking this into consideration --- "...whatda ya think about it??"

The key pattern can be copied with no problem... I had the hardware store make me a copy of the key pattern. See, I have this habit of popping the trunk to put my stuff in, and have this fear that in the time I do that the alarm will re-lock the doors. Now, if I for some silly reason leave my key on the trunk floor...
this way, I have a key for the wallet so I can get in and pop the trunk...
havent tried starting the car to see what would happen with it. I know it won't start, but I wonder if it would flash the green key-icon or not...
I'd be in for a new kind of key though...

I thought about that myself, but the only thing that is programmed is the remote. The key, I am pretty sure, are just garden variety keys.

As someone said earlier, the chip is embedded on the key itself, inside the area of the black housing. An S2000 key like the Type R would be cool, but tough to do, IMO.
