Default S2000 for a commuter?

I test drove a 2002 S2K today and am thinking of replacing my 350z. I love the z but miss the convertible (previous car was a Miata). I have a 40 mile drive to work, mostly freeway, and am wondering if you would recommend the S2K as a daily driver. I'm in Central Cal. and can usually drive home with the top down. The S2K seemed to be as comfortable as the Miata but it's hard to tell on a short test drive. I understand that most of these cars are used as occasional drivers, but there must some of you that use them for longer commutes. Any advice?

I commute 104 miles a day in mine. My main complaint is the cabin noise. Not an issue on short jaunts, but wears thin on an hour commute. For me, it's worth it to drive a decently light (or at least not obscenely overweight) responsive sports car.
Fuel mileage is pretty good, I get between 27 and 29mpg for my commute (which includes some stop/go a few times a week), so that's a plus.

they aren't bad for commuting in IMHO. The biggest downside is lack of space.

i've been DDing an S for a year now. they are reliable, get good mileage and you can open them up on an empty road. the only downside is space but there is more than enough room for my needs.

+1 for it being a good commute car. Especially on a bad work day. You get in the car, and you usually forget about work. Drop the top if it's not too cold or hot, and go. If your doing a lot of stop and go, you may get tired of a manual, but if that does not bother you, its worth it.

I'm a new owner of just over 2 months. I have been doing a lot of fwy driving and I'm now looking for a commuter car. The S is OK on the fwy not as bad as I thought but I'd rather buy a more comfortable daily and save the S for the weekends.

Coming from a 350z (stiffer suspension) it shouldn't be that big of a change for you.

DD here and never had an issue. For awhile I was driving most every weekend about 150 miles each way and enjoyed every minute of it

Good thread! I also have a 350z, manual which is my only car, and looking for an S as well. To the OP, I know it has less space but with the S you can lower the top and fit large items. With the Z, at least in my experience, its hard to fit anything, like a 27in TV or a bike. But i've seen an S2000 driver fit a bike with the top down LOL.

i came to S from NC and previously had NA.

IMO there is not less interior storage space and the trunk is bigger.
there is good space for tall driver - the dimention which is less is width for a driver.
seems to me that wide/big people will have a challenge inside the cabin width-wise.
all the rest is spacious enough.
