Seems a lot of people keep getting their misinformation from other sites and unfortunately it spreads here. If you see this posted in other topics, I'm sorry but I am trying squash this virus that keeps perpetuating. Those at http://www.S2Ki.com need to correct their information too.

Repeat after me. The S2000 convertible top is not canvas or fabric. It is vinyl. PVC = Poly Vinyl Chloride.

Thank you.

So what's Porsche's top? PVC as well? if so we could still continue to use that cleaner, although even if it wasn't, I don't think it would do it any harm.

Porsche tops are canvas. Not PVC.

People at Meguiar's recommend.
  • Meguiar #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner : Designed to deep clean heavily soiled vinyl, plastic, and rubber surfaces.

  • Meguiar #40 Vinyl and Rubber Conditioner : Thoroughly cleans, penetrates, rejuvenates and protects against drying and cracking on both vinyl and rubber surfaces. Protects against ultraviolet rays.

I guess sense the window and top are the same material, the 2002 top will be made of foldable glass too.

Ok the Porsche shampoo is out, but what about the Top Conditioner (3M Scothgard type stuff)? It has almost been 6 months and I was about to reapply. Is it beneficial, benign, or harmful?

I don't think it's out perse... it's just a good shampoo in general because from what I can undersatnd, it can also be used on the paint.

Is there a materials geek in the house? A Chemist maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong, but PVC is *not* vinyl. In any case it is not a "Vinyl" roof - it is a woven plastic roof. The mere presence of the word "vinyl" in "PVC" does not make the top Vinyl.
