But it might be hard to reach backwards while driving to put the top back up. That's one of the reasons I didn't want a Miata - I just could not raise that top back up for nothing unless I was at a complete stop and twisted around in my seat.

Or maybe I've just got no upper body strength.

I'm sure I will be labeled as an old guy that knows nothing but where has common sense gone. I see threads in her about the high cost of insurance and then I see this and such things as losing control and wrecking the vehicle in residential areas, street racing and trying to get out of large speeding tickets. Anyone want to gather a guess at where insurance companies get their statistics to support high rates.

.... and now wanting to defeat the safety measure so the top can be operated while moving. Besides the distration of the top moving, the increased drag and the possibility ( rare though it might be) of the top or part coming off and blinding the car behind in of itself would be enough to make this a stupid modification.

Old guy that obviously doesn't understand and has outlived his usefullness

i and a half dozen other members had this mod done during our metro nyc tech day courtesy of billman this past weekend.

this is by far the coolest mod done to my car in the looongest time (almost voodoo territory). it started to sprinkle this morning and while sitting in traffic (5mph), i lifted the ebrake up one click and raised the top. i know i couldve just come to a complete stop and take the 6 seconds or so to raise the top, but its soo much more fun while youre rolling

aren't two hands required to lock the top in place? kind of hard to do with the car rolling....

i was thinking of doing this mod but figuring out the right resistor value so it would only allow the top to move under, let's say, 25 mph. anything over that and i wouldn't feel comfortable with the wind resistance.

25MPH? I think you want to be sure you're going slower than that, liquid. Maybe, just maybe, 10MPH.

25mph is way too fast.. 15 is definitely pushing it. keep it under 10, and its all gravy.
