I haven't.
I wish couldn't find a big enough, safe parking lot to practice on.
Plus, I don't want to have more trouble with the popo.
The differential is too fragile on the S2000 to do drifting, IMO.

When I first got mine it had bald tires in the rear and WOW!!! I thought I was the drift king! Got some new sticky rubber so it doesn't quite break loose as easy as it did but I still throw it sideways once in awhile.

Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1ycU4iBAzY
In the wet, but still quite impressive.

I used to have an S13. I was into drifting...which would have been cliche, except for I was into it before drifting was cool. I stumbled upon my S13 in 02. I didn't even really know it was RWD. I liked sliding around in the snow, and then discovered an entire sport based around it. So i gave it a go in the dry and it was fun while it lasted.

The S13 had an OEM LSD that I bought. It was a 1.5 way VLSD.

The problem with the S2000 is that it has no issues actually initiating the slide. It's hard to KEEP it sliding, though.

It has a torsen diff. 1 way diffs mean LSD only on acceleration. On decel, it's open and the car SNAPS back hard making off throttle adjustments very difficult. You have to modulate the throttle...and you cannot get your foot completely out of it for any real amount of time. MAYBE a split second just to correct an extreme angle.

You also need to keep it in the power band. If it comes too far down past VTEC, you'll bog, and the car will re-line up straight or snap the other way.

The stock .25 toe in helps and hurts all at the same thing. First the car just wants to rotate all the way around...then when you correct it, you have to fight it to keep it sideways. Then it wants to go all the way around again...and so on in that cycle.

So you have to be really agressive.

REALLY agressive. So you have to know what you're doing.

The diff can't handle much abuse...so there's another huge issue. Torquless cars require clutch kicking. Too much of that, and you'll end up with diff peices on the ground behind you.

I think the diff is the biggest problem. If it had a 1.5way or 2 way clutch LSD with R200 style strength, you could overcome the other stuff. After all, corollas are torqueless, high revving, top heavy power band cars, and they do GREAT.

That would, however, ruin the S2000's dynamic to add a 1.5 or 2 way clutch LSD. 1.5 way is not unbearably bad for road racing....but 2 way...fuggedaboudit.

It was never meant to drift. you have to work at it a lot...and then you'll end up breaking it.

I'm not saying it's not fun or that I haven't had some good slides going in parking lots...but it's not anywhere near as easy as an S13 with an SR...even with the crappy OEM VLSD.

Plus, with the S2000, you have a clutch kick or launch count down till the diff breaks. It's not exactly worry and guilt free.

All that is not really a bad thing for me. I bought the S2000 because I was no longer into drifting. I really really like road racing now. I go as often as possible in the summer. The S2000 is awesome for road racing.

If it rains, however, and you find a slick tar style parking lot...you just found slide around heaven. lol.

:'(
NOOOO!!!!!'
hmmm. . .
if someone were to try such a thing though, and to try and make an s2000 into as much of a drifting car as possible, what mods would you guys suggest?
And i'm sure it would be easier to buy a car more suitable for the purpose, but if someone were to try. . .

R200 diff conversion. Turbo or SC for low end torque. 2 way diff. Proper alignment settings. You'd probably want to put the rear toe closer to 0...and get sticky ass tires for control.

After spending ???$10k+??, you'll realize it's a waste of money since S13s are like 6k with an SR and LSD. lol

The main thing with s2000 is the steering rack. It dampends the steering input which makes it difficult to drift. You would need to use a rack from and rx7 to drift properly.

Well, while you're at it, you could also modify a pig for high speed flight.

Why an RX7 of all things?
