S2000 as a first car

Good point, I trust her to follow the rules - no texting while driving, etc, so no large group of passengers should be followed as well. Maybe I'm old school, but I see RWD as better to learn. FWD is certainly more benign, but I'd prefer she learn how to drive a RWD manual than a lazy FWD auto. Maybe that's the thing here - I expect her to be taught and learn how to drive responsibly, not just mindlessly follow the car in front of her then scream and take her hands off the wheel as soon as something bad happens. I hear you on the value of money too, trust me, that's accounted for..
Every teenager texts while they drive. Every single one.
That's kind of stereo typical, don't you think? We may speed, and do stupid shit from time to time, but I never touch the phone while driving. That's what my bluetooth is for. And 1 finger to push the button.

Always made the argument where with a manual I wouldn't be able to touch my phone while driving lol...
Horrible first car.
Lift-off oversteer could definitely throw her for a loop (pun not intentional).
Poor gas mileage, high insurance rates, etc.
Boyfriends and teenagers are a lot harder on their cars than you give them credit for.
And vandalism, kids with worse cars/no cars will be jealous, and they will do something stupid. That's why my cars in high school had their BBS valve stem caps stolen, paint markers used to write on the car's paint, etc.
I've always been a very, very conservative driver and there were still (hugely infrequent) occasions when I'd attempt to max my old beater of a first car. No kid is going to be much different.
Jesus, kid above me with the CR. MBN to have parents who can throw that kind of money around.

To OP, I don't post much, but after reading your thread I must. I always thought my nephew was the most responsible boy in the world. Good grades, polite, humble, family oriented blah blah blah, everything you can think of from a good boy. When he turned 16, I gave him my 91 MR2. Then one night after he came home, police knock on the door a home owner few streets down reported a hit and run. A red car lost control, slid into his front yard and damage the landscaping (thank god no casualty). The home owner was able to spot the license plate and called the police. We went down to garage and check on the MR2, the suspension was completely goofed( not sure how he was able to drove back home, and the MR2 was totalled of course. He confessed to us saying that there wasn't a night that he didn't drift before coming home. The conclusion:
-Never trust teenagers behind the wheel. They all speed.
-Doesn't matter what gender, driving skills are accumulated by experience and driving time, which your is daughter lacking of.
-New drivers may make more mistakes, so get a beater as a first car.
-I don't think s2000 is a good first car, expensive, fast, small, roofless and flashy.
You can argue an experienced driver with a 1990 corolla can crash it too, but hey, even there is only 0.000001% of change,I would do anything to minimize any possibilities. I don't care how expensive the repair bill is, your daughter's life is the most precious access of yours. DON'T DO IT

I started driving around a farm at a young age. By 15, I drove over half the distance from FL to CO with my mom in the passenger seat. My first car was a 2nd generation turbo RX7, and shortly after a few other old japanese sports cars. Sure I did stupid stuff, but by that point I had way more driving experience than most people my age.
In short, none of us here know your daughter like you do. There are definitely exceptions to the "rule".

Ah that's so wrong. I know you take both hands off the wheel. One hand for the cell phone, the other for the shifter, one leg for the clutch, and a knee for the steering wheel!
