Default S2000 gullwing fender modification

OK, it hasn't rained here in 45 days, but this morning we get just enough of a sprinkle to get the road damp. I am driving to work on a nice little road with several curves, and I'm being extra cautious going about 30-35mph in 4th gear (nowhere near vtec), when WHAM, the rear end breaks loose as I start up a hill and I can't save it. I've heard several similar stories on this board and did not belive them, but now I do. I've had several DE courses, and consider myself a good driver, but this thing happened fast. I know that the ultra slick road contributed, but really thought I was being extra cautious.

Anyway, slide off the road and over a limestone curb sidewise. The passenger fender is now sticking out like a wing, front wheel damaged, and who knows what else. I'll post photos and a damage report later.

That really sucks. Sounds like you might've hit a oil spot or something. A lot of people on this board either lost it because the tires weren't warmed up properly, or they were going too fast in the rain. Since you were doing neither and the roads hadn't been rained on for a long time, you probably hit a bad patch of oil.

Good luck with the repairs.

Light rains can sometimes be worse than heavy ones. A light sprinkle will get the roads just wet enough to raise oil (which pretty much coats every road from side to side) to the top, making the entire road one large oil slick.

I've read these posts over and over..."I didn't do anything... honest, the car just went nuts on me". I don't know about the rain glitch, since I'm already trying my damndest to upset the car already (it's fun), and have had little success, but I know the car has quirks...and the rain/wet thing seems to be one of them. Careful dudes. Hope you get it fixed Tex, and glad you're OK.

Yep. I knew it was going to be slick so I was being cautious, or so I thought. I'll have to show you the location Randy, and maybe you can help me figure out what happened. It was only 3 minutes from my house so, cold tires, damp road, no rain in 45 days so oil on the road, but D**M, I was actually going in a straight line up a slight hill (maybe at 3000rpm) when all hell broke loose. I'm pi**ed!

Man, sorry you got caught.. one of the features of LSD on a really slippery surface would be my guess.. it has happened to me in another car under almost identical conditions. Good luck on the fix.

Crap. That really sucks. My wife thinks I am crazy, but I wont even think of taking the Stook anywhere if see one little tiny speck of green on the weather radar. These kind of stories make me do this

I hope the repairs go well and I am glad you are ok and can write us all about it.

Russ,

I'm glad that you're okay. Being a motorcyle rider, the lightest of sprinkles provided the worst sliding/driving conditions. I dreaded being caught on a cloverleaf during rush-hour traffic after a light sprinkle.

I would imagine the fact that it hasn't rained in a while gave enough time for the oil to accumulate more in certain spots. You may have just hit that inconspicuous patch the wrong way.

I hope you get things fixed before TWS.

Take care.
