So how would shops probably go about fixing this? Would they just put a new outside part of the door or would they try to fix the door? I have never dealt with major bodywork on a door piece like that.

If the door is creased, they'll replace the panel. If it's just dented, they can pull the dent out and smooth things out, then repaint.

You can try to pull the dent out yourself for now -- get a big toilet plunger and pull.

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but what is the difference between a dent and a crease?

A dent you can pop back out. You can usually tell, a dent almost looks like you could just go behind and punch it out and it'd be ok. A crease is where the metal is pinched and you can't pull it back out.

Ok so my mom got some estimates done and both shops said they would need to replace the door skin. The quotes were for $863 and $917 and that included the new skin. Both said the skin was $249. Is there somewhere I can buy the skin myself and save some $ or am I best off to just buy it from the shop?
