S2000 Honda Upgrade, 2001-2002?
I know this has been beaten to death and some, but just read a snippet in UK Autocar, about Hondas plan to upgrade the S2000 late next year?
Autocar are quite good at getting their info right on things like this but it seems to me that date area is too close to the run out of the S2000 (I'm guessing early 2002 to allow build of the new NSX).
Might this upgrade be the 'flagship' S2000 (for want of a better description).
Will anyone outside of Japan get it?
Or do they mean the TypeV, with its improved steering / handling (a bit late for me and a few others).

When ever I see the comments regarding a more advanced version, either with more performance or some desired feature I have to think through the premise. Just what would Honda do to this car?
If it is a performance version how could it have more usable power.. that would take more output or less weight. I don

Most of you know that I follow the board and love my car - even though I may not have the depth of knowledge of the rest of you.
Cd, I would be gutted if I missed out on a significantly better S2000. I understand and probably agree (That's decisive of me!) with what you say but like Paul and Gary I am concerned not to miss out.
Would it be far fetched of me to imagine that Honda have produced a new 2.2 or 2.5 litre engine similar in design to the one in the S2000 that could push the BHP (And possibly more importantly the torque figures) higher? I know that they already use a 2.2 engine for the Prelude and Accord.
They won't be standing still in terms of engine development and I wonder if they have such an engine would there be much gain if it were dropped into the S2000?
Kind Regards,
Simon.

Cd,
There you go again being more practical and experienced!
I am a sad bloke as I was thinking that all the S2000 competitors have moved their game on in the power stakes - The Boxster S, the 320 bhp SLK, the BMW M Roadster...
So I was thinking that Honda may wish their 'flagship' to be more attractive by adding a little more power for the money. They are still keen to sell the car as in the UK they have just dropped the price by

Just my tid bits
4 yr ago when car was in the works, it was said it would come with a 4 cyl at first, then in a few yr a V-5.. 290 hp...not sure about a v5 however.. Cd you might be right, but my only bit of disagrement with you is, if they did push closer to the nsx's 290 hp... who cars...in a yr new nsx gets a v8 with 400hp
I also believe/think, that even though they arent trying to keep up with there German conterparts, with the way Honda competes and advances... maybe a newer engine is on the way.
one last thing... a little while back, someone asked why we didnt get a vtec-i engine... well what if Honda has secertly in the works the same 2 litre engine, but a vtec-i? could it be good for more power and torque? Just remeber, honda gets alot from racing, and past 2 yr theyve been back strong in F1, and in 01 there feeding two teams engines..but what the hell do I know... look at my signature

Cd etal, Very good responses, I'm in no way suggesting that Autocar are right, its just a conversation starter.
That VTEC-i maybe we all are thinking about, with something 'as bolt on' (relatively) as that there's rumoured to be 10 - 15% Bhp/Torque - economy, respectively, with that they could shorten 1st, 2nd & 3rd, and fit 17" wheels while still reducing 0-60 and in gear sprint times, so a official 'body mod' too, then other weight reducers, maybe just 70Kg worth and you could be nearing 0-60 in a straight 5 secs?. These mods in total will probably justify a 10% increase in price though (back to what we in Blighty originally paid for it!!!!).
Its easy to get carried away, but fun also.

Well, if Honda is going to offer a "real semi-automatic gearbox" then I hope they offer the vinyl padded hard top (alligator pattern) with opera windows and bud vases.
