Default S2000 from the last millenium!

while washing the old honda i noticed on the door it was manufactured on 9/99...any other pre-2000 S2000's out there????....come to think of it, i'm sure the displacement is oh so slightly under 2000cc's as well.....so we may well have a 1999 S1996...kinda has a different ring to it......

there actually WAS a model year 1999 S2000 made in other parts of the world (australia for example)

however, the S2000 has nothing to do with the year made. it is in regards to displacement. it's a 2.0 liter, so they round the CC's to 2000. (up from 1997)

The S2000 was never made outside of Japan. It was sold in Japan and some other countries before 2000, but never made anywhere else except in Japan.

mine was originally sold in Sept of 99 so they are probably pretty close in VIN. my VIN ends with 00027x.

They came out as early as spring '99 as a 1999 model in Japan and Australia.

good question.

I think it may have something to do with HONDA setting and approving the name of the car.

heck, maybe Honda of Japan didn't want to bother making a new side badge just for the US model. Then again, they made an engine and tranny for the US model. Hmm.

Marketing.. changing the name would have been a terrible marketing mistake
