S2000 Notorious for Crumpling?
The frame is strong. It does not crumple easily. I'd say even the bits designed to crumple to reduce the g-shock of an impact are likely entirely unaffected by your incident, based on what I can see of the damage.
At least, that's my personal experience from getting squarely rear-ended and shoved across an intersection. The bumper cover fell off, the styrofoam bits disintegrated - and there was zero frame/subframe/crumple-zone damage. (YMMV)

cars are built with "crumple zones" - they are designed to crumple.
Crumple.
At any rate, 4 and 5 star crash rating. Nuff said.

1/4 panel is fine. the light got pushed inward at impact. Trust me, its the first and last thing i checked.
I had a slight argument over the picture already with a couple friends who insisted the 1/4 panel was ****ed, but it isnt. Its a combination of the lighting, shitty iphone camera, and the tailight being knocked around a bit.

in my experience all hondas are like this
plastic and thin sheet metal everywhere
i barely rubbed the front end of my company car (honda civic) against a pillar at very low speeds and managed to ruin the headlight, hood, fender and bumper
****** hondas man, i love them forever, but boy are they fragile
looking at your picture i seriously seriously doubt there is ANY frame damage whatsoever. merely cosmetic. this guy was blowing smoke up your ass

Shadow- this is my issue.
We all know that there are crumple zones. But this guy is adamant about the s2000 being particularly bad and susceptible. I'm wondering if anyone else has heard this.
Presto- yeah, the damage is minor, which is why I figure it can be replaced relatively easily and painlessly. I don't understand why this guy is insisting that it's going to be a huge process

If your 1/4 panel isn't f'd up then your trunk is.
I don't know if s2ks crumple easily or not, though thats not a bad thing since crumpling is what will save your life. so I wouldn't get too worked up about the shop guy saying your car may have frame damage.
Also, I don't see why you seem to think the shop is the enemy, the guy just wants to go through a thorough checkup to make sure nothing hidden is damaged. B/c once its fixed and out of the shop, you're have a hell of a hard time convincing this lady to fork over more cash to repair it properly.....let them take their time. There is a reason he works in a body shop and you don't.

Honestly, they do but that's what saves your life, anyways i went to subway i just ordered my sub and i sat down. I parked my car right in front so i could see it while i eat. Next thing i know an impala is backing up, and i'm like okay he's gonna stop he sees my car, well he didn't and i go out screaming are you blind, anyways my door got smashed in all the way to the steel beams and my quarter panel a little bit, what happen to the impala? A SCRATCH absolutely nothing else, i'm like whaaat, sorry for being so long, so now the car is been in the shop for 2 weeks, they gave me a rental, but i do miss my baby dearly. So just let them inspect it more because your not paying for it, maybe you can also put some money in your pocket who knows.
Don't take the body man' s word to heart. He's just trying to help you out. I agree his wisdom may not be all there, but he may be trying to explain to you his experiences.
I work in a body shop and seen tonnes of accidents of all sorts. You car is indeed a little more than minor from your pictures in my opinion but I wouldn't call it anywhere near major.
YES the bodyman has to take off the rear bumper to inspect what is damaged underneath such as your end panel and steel rebar (could be pushed in). This is the best way to find hidden damages you cannot see from just looking at it from the outside(such as your pictures)
From the pictures posted above, I can tell you that you will have to get these done for starters.
1)New rear trunk (including new hinges as they are now bent shown in picture)
2)New rear bumper cover
3)End Panel needs to be pulled out and straightened
4)Reinforced steel rebar needs to be replaced or straightened out
5)rebar foam needs to be replaced (if broken)
6)paint trunk/rear bumper/blend both quarter panels/inner end panel.
Hope that helps you out a little on your situation. Hope you get it back in top shape.
