Default S2000 offered in Rio Yellow in 2001?

Hey Guys,

I am going to be purchasing a used S2000 within the coming month. My question is, was the S2000 ever offered in a Rio Yellow as an 01' model? I just want to make sure the car was never repainted.

Also, what year did they switch to the 2.2L from the 2.0? What other differences were made to the S2K between the year gaps?

Thanks!

Nope, the yellow in 2001 was SPA.It is very close to the same color. If you have never seen them side by side you would never know.

Rio Yellow and the 2.2L engine were both first relased in 2004.

You are going to have to search for the rest of the information. It is all posted, and too numerus to type here. Most of the changes were minor.

SPA Yellow was the first yellow offered and was available '01-'03. RIO Yellow replaced SPA in '04. '04 was also the first year of the 2.2L. The front and rear bumpers, headlights and tail lights were also new in '04. To go along with the new rear bumper, oval exhaust tips were added. The interior got a new center console and radio door cover. I think there might have been some suspension changes...I'm sure some others will chime in. Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for the info!

Here is the car I'm looking at. The seller insists that the car is Rio Yellow and has never been painted. It does look like the Rio Yellow to me, what do you guys think?

It does kinda look like RIO....could be the lighting, camera, etc. As Stratocaster said it can be difficult to tell them apart (especially in photos) unless you have a Spa and Rio next to each other. This is a USDM car, correct? How about you ask for the paint code from the car (should be on a white sticker on the drivers door sill). I'll get the paint code from my Spa when I get a free minute.

Thanks, I will try and get that information from the seller. I know that the Spa Yellow is a lot lighter in color.

It is not alot. It is a minor differance. Rio looks to have more pearl than SPA. I would be it is SPA, the owner just done not know the name for sure. There was a thread the other day where the owner wanted to know what color silver he had. So it happens.

Spa is actually lighter than Rio. I believe you can tell the difference side by side. Search the official color thread.
