Default S2000 owners safety, double-check....

I hope the title caught your attention to this. This past weekend a local owner came over to the house to pick up some various S2000 parts. I ended up looking at his MY2001 car just to see had he done anything to it....well, at 50,000+ miles it was pretty stock.

What caught my how high his car was sitting. I promptly had him pull into the garage, got on my knees, stuff my hands behind the wheels, and found SPRING SPACERS!!!!!

The car had been driven for 50K+ miles with no major incident, thankfully!!!! At this past year's Fresh Water Tour in Wisconsin, we had a participant/owner from Michigan with his spring spacers on the car at 25K+ mileage.

People, this is unsafe!!! Dealerships, this is unacceptable!!!!

Now please go and check your cars for your safety and your driving experience.

*Just a reminder for the newer owners...you know the '03+ people. The original MY2000 and MY2001 owners should be fully aware of the issues with this

Also a BTW, I posted this in "S2000 Talk" hoping that it would catch the most clicks from newer owners.

Nope...he thought the car drove like what it was supposed to drive like. He's not alone. There were a few others that remarked how good the car handled after we removed the spacers. They just didn't know (not because of ignorance, not because of stupidity, etc.).

I'm waiting to hear from him to see what he thought of his ride home.

Is there a picture of this? I have looked at my springs many times and seen nothing but I was just wondering if there is a pic of the springs with a spacer in them...

I took a few pics of the spacers off the car, and the owner took a pic of them while I was taking them off. I'll post what I have once I get home.

I may have a pic or two from the Fresh Water Tour owner, though.

MY01 came with cool spring spacers too... I noticed them before I purchased the car, and had the Service department at the dealership remove them before I bought the car.

pretty crazy

They all (MY2000-2006) come with spring spacers when they are delivered new to the dealership. However, many dealerships do really piss-poor PDI's and/or are very lazy at double checking the PDI list when delivering a car to the customer.

Good info You may also want to post a duplicate of this in the "Introductions" forum for potential new owners so they know what to look out for when purchasing.
